No, not exactly good for a person who has chronic fatigue, which I have Provigil for, and am not sleeping 12-15 hours a day. This is not helpful when I have 8-12 hours of class Monday through Friday and need to study for exams. I other words, I will soon fail out.

Greenstone or Pharmacia Upjohn, all the way.

Interesting this thread just appeared recently, as I tried Greenstone alprazolam for the first time a few days ago. One of my so-called friends stole my last few days supply of Purepac 1mg alprazolam a few days ago, and since that happened my best friend (who also has severe panic/social anxiety) has been helping me out with his Greenstone 2mg alprazolam.

I find them to be *much* more consistent in effect, as well as a great deal more anxiolytic. 1mg of the Purepac crapola just kept anxiety at bay; 1mg of the Greenstone brand and I feel very at ease, talkative, it's really wonderful.

Bottom line, next time I get my prescription I'm either having my pdoc write "Brand Name Necessary" on the script, or get the pharmacy to order Greenstone. The difference between these and the other varietes available is, to me, even more extreme than the variations among generic clonazepams.

Just my 2¢.

Did you find it to be more sedating that your generic alprazolam?

i just took a generic gen brand xanax. i am skeptical it did anything. i seem to have massive automatic tolerance before i even try benzos though. it doesn't matter if i haven't tried using them in a year.

I don't feel the Greenstone formulation was any more sedating than any other generics I've tried, though I may not be the best person to ask when it comes to trying to discern a drug's sedative effects. After all, the only things that sedate me these days are narcotics, barbs, meprobamate, and hefty doses of Halcion... :-/

INSURANCE CO. REFUSED REQUEST FOR NAME BRAND

I am so upset. Just came from pdoc and pharmacy and the %$#@^&# crappy blue cross blue shield won't let the doctor order brand name Xanax for me!!! My anxiety is sky high right now...I am stuck with these worthless generics and having withdrawal symptoms (muscle in arm twitching last night, anxiety, neck tension bad).

My doctor said she will fight it and has faxed in the request to override the insurance company's refusal. I'll know tomorrow....meanwhile I am stuck with almost worthless SANDOZ and feel like a street junkie when I have been Iatrogenically addicted to this crap. I wish I had never touched a benzodiazepine. So I will go with the greenstone if worse comes to worse.
Signed,
The Accidental Addict

Can you pay for the Xanax brand out of pocket until the insurance company agrees to provide it?

Valene my doc always requested the real med but the insurance companies when I had them would not supply the real med. You have to pay out of pocket. I used to get 90pills of lmg for around $l75.00. Until I tried the greenstone trust me I know my benzos and it's the real thing. It really is. Love Phillipa

Yes my pdoc just called me and she said I could do that. The pharmacist didn't tell me I had that option. They don't stock the brand name Xanax so I might as well wait until tomorrow to see if the request gets approved.

My doctor filled out a form called a "prior authorization" and faxed it to BC/BS. They call it a medical necessity and it is now approved for me to pick up the real xanax at my pharmacy tomorrow (they had to order it since not one person gets the real xanax there). So, Phillipa if your doctor fights for you with BC/BS she can make it happen. I guess I need to be more humble with my pdoc. I have to pay $45 for a one month supply.

There are now a TON of different drug programs that you can get to go along with Medicare. Aren't you signed up for one?

I just can't believe how much you have to pay for meds in the US, it just blows my mind, I can get a script of 50, 5mg tabs of Valium for $14 Australian dollars, and $11 for generic, generic meds ore ok here, they are regulated and not inferior quality. My god, how the hell can they do this to you, it's disgraceful. I really feel for you all. You can get a script of real Xanax of 50, 1mg tabs here for as low as $16 Aussie dollars, what the hell is going on in the US.

Phillipa, I thought you had to be at least 62 or 65 to qualify for medicare? Or do you have it because of disability?

I have Blue Cross Blue shield HMO through my husband's work, so my situation is obviously different.

The poster that said there are other insurance plans to go with medicare is right though; my mom has medicare but it doesn't cover much at all! She pays for BlueCare 65 (Blue shield for seniors). Does your husband have medical insurance? Can you get covered by that?

Love, Val

You are so right, Tizza. We just get ripped off badly here on prescription meds. We have a horrible medical system of HMO's. They only care about money and the doctors many of them get paid by capitation (the number of heads they have signed up whether or not they see them). Then when I do get a doctor's appointment with my internist it lasts about 5-7 minutes NOT KIDDING.

Even my pdoc says socialized medicine, such as they have in Canada and UK is better than the system we have here. :-(

Hi T

Medications are often very expensive in the US because the US government does not regulate the prices of prescription drugs. In many other countries, the government exerts price controls on pharma companies, forcing prices down. Branded pharmaceuticals are particularly inexpensive in Italy, Spain and Greece.

More than one of you asked so this is directed to those who would like to know. I'm on Disablity Medicare A and B. Now for hospitalizations, ER, MRI's the like it pays a great deal. And my husband has his own insurance in his own name for himself . It's not through work as he is self-employed. So no I can't get on his policy cause of my preexisting conditions and age they won't touch me. I've been checking into medicare coverage today. As the thyroid issue and what may result may require meds other than psych. Good thing I didn't go for the EMSAM. Anyway I did get a CVS med card and saved 20% for my synthroid. The pharmacist said to me that none of the medicare insurance companies cover benzos. And until the middle of Nov you can't sign up as it's being changed. I received an e-mail from someone doing extremely well on her meds but medicare is cutting them this November and she's beside herself. As the meds are so expensive. Evidently from phone calls made today and the pharmacist especially about 20 insurance companies are participating in the new medicare prescription program come 2007. There is a copay. And different fees and different levels of coverage. Everyone seems very confused at this point about what this means. I went to one of the medicaire sites and it said some about Medicaid also being now part of Medicare. Does anyone out there know anything? Or word things better than me and start a thread as I will do later if no one else does. Love Phillipa
