What med is giving you difficulty?

Well they say SSRI's are notorious for sweating. Dont know about the SSNRI's but it may be the same. Love Phillipa

I seem to recall reading an abstract once on cyproheptadine having some benefits in this situation. You would have to balance that against the possible adverse effects from cyproheptadine, namely, possible weight gain and perhaps some sedation.

Lots of drugs make you sweat. Very few stop you from sweating.

Like chemicals being estrogenic. There are lots of those, but not many mimic testosterone(?)

but not so much on my current combo which includes a SSRI. I think the SNRIs may cause extra excessive sweating. I never found a way to decrease the sweating.

Good luck,
Colleen

Thanks for info - guess I will have to consider going without Effexor as I cannot live like this...to make things worse, weather has been hot and humid for the past week or so...no other meds I've ever taken have had this type of side effect - now my ankles and feet are swelling and fingers of left hand are tingly with no feeling in tips. Glad I will see my Dr. on Monday.

I was on effexor from 1995 to 2004, the original formulation was worse in this respect to the later XR formulation. For me it was a start up effect that got much better after a few weeks. I took it prior to going to bed; I need a cool room to sleep so for the most part I did not have any problems with sweating. Unless I missed a dose or increased the dose; then it was only a problem for a day.

I've been suffering with the extreme sweating from 450mg Effexor for close to a year. About a month ago - I experienced my first heatstroke which I attribute to the drug. I think it's more than just sweating. I think it jacks up the body's entire temperatures regulatory system. I can start sweating through my clothes when I'm in an air conditioned office - at night I drench my pillow - and many times I have to wear a suit to for work. It's been awful.

I've decided to advance my pdoc appointment and start weaning off this stuff. The detriments are now outweighing the benefits.

I agree - this staying in my cool house all the time and avoiding the sun is getting to me...

I couldn't resist weighing in on the "sweat" talk. I hate to sweat and it has been one thing that remained after getting off 225 mg (5 yrs) of Effexor. I feel like my thermostat is broke and I sweat from the neck up...like a fountain!! It feels like the water boils in my head and pours out my scalp! Hot (100 degrees plus) and humid here too and I hate it!! HAVEN'T LOST ANY WATER WEIGHT EITHER!!

I have found some limited relief from the sweating problem by consistently taking flaxseed and fish oil morning and night. I don't remember the dose but I take 2 capsules of each morning and night. I still have them - but they seem less severe and less often.
