yes, well i cant really say, it when i was on it.

It totally made me a freaking zombie, tuned out alot of emotion.

But if your having mania, which i have, it does seem to "halt" it from increasing because i have read methylphenidate has something to do with dopamine resting levels. Now a high dose, hell yes. That would induce mania bye. Lower doses for some reason i have read they cause dopmaine levels to lower, well the resting levels.

thats my well thought.

In my experience it is entirely possible. These diseases are not as clear cut as people make them out to be.

I remember reading that for some bipolars, test doses of amphetamines actually had antimanic effects.

I remember that I had (what I thought was) a manic episode. Impulsiveness/recklessness/racing mind etc. Ritalin calmed me down, and actually made me kind of a little depressed.

So, yes, I do think that (depening on the nature) it could have this effect.

There is a lot of overlap between bipolar and ADD. Some syptoms of mania could be explained in terms of hypofunctional frontal corticies.

Thanx for the replies,
I'm glad that it seems that some people have been calmed by ritalin... what doses where the two of u one? my pdoc, who just ironically is an ADD specialist as well, says the one bipolar he treats who is on ritalin takes a whooping 110mg...

The crazy thing is that I was reading about ADD and many of the symptoms seem to overlap with hypomania/mania... not only that, i seem to have many of the symptoms... one more question, have u guys tried the ritalin-like drugs?? are they generally useful?
thanx

I took a maximum of 20mg / day.

From what I understand, dopamine acts as both an inhibitory neurotransmitter and an excitory neurotransmitter.

I noticed that it slowed my mind down, and helped me to process my thoughts one at a time.

I found it very calming, the first dose I fell asleep on.
