Kind of long story about getting off of Effexor

Posted by William Clark on April 1, 2006, at 22:16:43

Hi all, well here goes, I'll jump right into it. Last August I started Effexor XR, just like everyone I started with 37.5 then went to 75.0. Had the start-up side effects for about two weeks then I started feeling GREAT, this lasted for about a month, then it pooped out I guess. I went back to my Dr. and told him that I had stopped feeling the effects. Then he upped me to 150.0 in November, The great feelings I had for that month never came back, I took the 150's until the first week of March of this year, went back to him and told him that I might as well stop the meds. ok, this is how I did it, might as well add that I'm not takeing anything else, first he told me to take a 150.0 and skip a day, well, that didnt work, I couldn't sleep and the brain zaps were bad, I told him this and he gave me two of the start-up packs, seven 37.5's and seven 75's in each pack. I was to take a 37.5 and a 75 for seven days, then take only a 75 for seven days then finish up with takeing the 37.5's for seven days and that was it. I have been completely off of then for 5 days now no side-effects whatsoever!! no crying, no depression, nothing, except the sex drive is back! I know this wont work for everyone but if I honestly thought this was a bad suggestion I wouldn't write it. and beleve me, I was more than ready to split all those 150's I had leftover into eighths!! good luck to all of you on this board, reading these entries have helped and informed me alot. Peace...
