I'm giving this stuff another try, as nothing has really worked so far.
In the past year and a half I've tried so many things; most recently Effexor. Effexor just leaves me so exhausted all the time, and really doesn't do anything for my depression.
Have tried it in combination with other AD's too.
Anyway, recently dropped the Effexor and am presently taking Serzone, and for the first time in ages, I'm feeling somewhat better. I'm only taking 150 mgs a day so far. Low and slow for me.
Anyway, would like to know if anybody out there take the stuff still. Would love to hear a success story or two.
Thanks.

Hi
I don't have a success story, as of yet, but i do take serzone, [nafazodone, u.s.] 100 mgs. at night to sleep, along with 20 mgs. prozac in the morning. my doctor has suggested trying all serzone, i was on 300 mgs. for 2 month's in the past, it didn't seem to help my ocd alot, although sleep was great, and no sexual side-effects. how do you take your 150 mgs., all at night, or in 2 doses? please keep us posted on how you are doing...john

I take the 150 mgs by chipping at it throughout the day. I'd have to say that thus far, I am feeling better than I have in a looooong time.
Serzone doesn't cause me the cognitive difficulties that ALL the other AD's I've tried do.
I did have an upset stomach yesterday, and a headache for the better part of the afternoon. Don't know if it is due to Serzone. I'd say it's a somewhat promising beginning thus far, but won't draw any conclusions for a couple of months.
I was considering the VNS implant, and have even spoken with a surgeon about it, but I'm still leary.

Hi, been on serzone/nefazodone for seven years, nothing else works for me. I didn't really realize how great it was until I tried switching to other meds--what a mistake. Side effects: nausea and lightheadedness for about 45 minutes after taking it. I get regular liver tests and am always fine.
One thing--maybe I'm imagining this, but the side effects of the generic seem more intense than those of the brand.
Also--be careful of combining nefazodone with other meds, especially psych meds.
Good luck with nefazodone, I hope it continues to work for you!

Serzone does work, and I've found it has side effects that are sometimes similar, but much *less* than SSRIs. The bad thing about serzone is that when you start taking it, it can really be a bitch to get used to it. Irritability, crying, abdominal pain, headaches, and extreme lethargy were the main ones for me. My liver tests have also come back normal (last one about 2 weeks ago, have been on med for about 4 months.) Serzone is a subtle medicine, and it's effects will come out over time. I like serzone, but I have high hopes for EMSAM. Good luck.

Is Serzone still available in the US? it was withdrawn completely here in Canada a few years ago (in a classic case of medico/legal cautionary overkill IMHO).
I'm not sure it would still work for me -- when I went on Wellbutrin for a while, then tried Serzone again, it seemed as though the Wb had permanently destroyed the sleep-regulating aspect of Serzone and turned it into a much more typical activating SRI. But for about 7 years, in combo with buspirone, it was the best fit to my body chemistry of anything I have been on.

I agree with the post quoted below so far. Have really experience the irritability, crying, abdominal pain (headache only once), but have experienced some relief of depression. It's early on though. Even with that, it's been worth it so far.
I've ramped up to in excess of 500 mgs a day, and might kick it up to 600. The good thing is that, for me at least, Serzone has far fewer side effects than SSRI's, which basically, I can't tolerate at even minimal therapeutic doses.
I have yet to get a liver test. I just started Serzone in January.
I'll try to post periodically to update on how I'm doing on Serzone.
Good luck to you all. I'm glad this is still in the arsenal of things to try.

Is the generic still available in U.S.A.? I used it before and it was great for panic, anxiety. I am thinking of going back on it to get my sex life back as 300mg per day gave me NO sexual side effects! Thoughts..........

flmm,
I have been taking the generic Nefazodone too. Sorry for the confusion.
BTW, though in general I've been somewhat pleased with the results of nefazodone, it has definitely NOT been a linear progression. Just today I had a really bad day, and have had a few of those, but in general it's been an upward trend.
Nefazodone doesn't cause much in the way of sexual side effects. Certainly not in the same league with SSRI's or Effexor.
FWIW, I just changed my screen name from Sabino to HeadCheese01.

Does the liver risk increase with longer term use? ie is it more dangerous if I use it 10 years versus 2 at the same dose?
This is the end of the thread.
