"BETTER ANTIDEPRESSANT?
The deal with Servier gives Novartis U.S. rights to agomelatine, a Phase III investigational drug for the treatment of major depressive disorder, which may have advantages over existing treatments.
Agomelatine has been filed for approval in Europe but Novartis will need to conduct a clinical trial program in the United States, which analysts said suggested sales were still a number of years away.
Industry analysts at Kepler Equities said agomelatine appeared to have similar efficacy to other antidepressants such as Wyeth's Effexor and GlaxoSmithKline's Paxil, but may have fewer side effects.
"The antidepressant market is crowded, so ultimate sales of agomelatine for Novartis will depend on the success of its clinical trial program," Kepler said in a note." "

Woohoo!
The more, the merrier.
I was worried that this drugs wasn't going to make it over here. Let's hope that its use in Europe provides benefits to those taking it.

I tried my own version of Agomelantine, cyproheptadine + melatonin. :)

So, what happened?I'm actually a little discouraged that the drug is such a potent agonist at M1 and M2 melatonin receptors. Melatonin really makes my depression worse. Of course, that might not mean anything, but...
It would be nice to have ritanserin to fool around with.

You're right, ritanserin would be nice!
Cyproheptadine + melatonin ameliorated stress induced insomnia when both agents alone failed.
I am a fan of cyproheptadine, some people find it a little depressing, but I find it profoundly calming.

I have some cyproheptadine. I bought it OTC. I think it was a bit depressing but it could be my imagination.

Hi Ed.

The part of the brain that gets depressed is presumably not far from the imagination. I wish it were available OTC here. I am positive I would react euthymically to it (or I imagine I would!).

Cyproheptadine and mirtazepine are great for sleep, while you're asleep. But on waking I thought I'd just as soon sleep badly as feel like that until lunch.

Hi,
Doesn't really sound like a promising drug to me, I don't mind side affects as long as the depression goes away, I'll take anything, increased weight, flatulance, lowered sex drive whatever.
When are they going to bring out some different acting drugs, what happened to this drug Nemifitide and why do these bloody trials take so long???
