Okay, first let me say I'm taking 2mgs klonopin at night for social anxiety which works better for SP than anything else I've tried.
I don't seem to have trouble falling asleep, but I never wake up feeling rested, it's hard for me to get out of bed, tired most the day, don't feel like ever doing much. I have always considered myself a very light sleeper.
At my doctors request I took a home sleep apena test which showed I had a moderate case. So I think, "Wala", this is it, there's the answer, and with a CPAP air machine they told me I'd feel great. But I after getting the CPAP machine I'm no better.
So they send me to an overnight sleep study for state of the art testing. As it turns out the new results show I don't have sleep apnea and that per the study, I hit all levels of sleep and should be well rested. They told me everyone should hope to sleep as good as my tests showed I slept. That I hit all levels of sleep including REM. Plenty of stage 3 & 4 sleep too, but I sure didn't think I slept that good.
I've tried most anti depressants (except MAOI's which I will be trying later in April when EMSAM comes out), I've tried stimulants and coffee during the day (really agrivates my anxiety), I'm just flipping tired, some days worse than others.
I've done all the following to help with sleep: keep weight down, excersize, quit drinking, eat healthy, try to go to bed same time each night and more.
Sleep aids/meds really don't seem to help, benedryl doesn't help, the problem seems more to be I just wake up tired, don't want to get out of bed and nothing seems fun.
Perhaps it's a side effect of klonopin as mono therapy? I've read many who say that klonopin interferes with depression. Is that it or perhaps it's from what I consider to be mild depression? I'm sure tired of it. Any ideas???? Sorry for the long post, thanks for your thoughts....

hI there,
I take 2mg of Klonopin at night, too. When I first started, I would wake up tired in the morning like you becuase, I think, of Klonopin's long half-life. It was still in my system and making me tired when I woke up. Since I've been on it for a few years now, I don't have that effect. When I took Klonopin regualrly during the day, after awhile, it built up and caused some depression. I've never experienced that when taking it only at night, though, and I don't know if day vs. night makes a difference. Sorry I don't have the answers, but I hope you find them.

Try switching to xanax. It is shorter acting and has mood elevating properties instead of the mood dulling properties of clonazepam. Some people like diazepam or lorazepam. Just some options to replace the clonazepam which sounds like it is the guilty party.
