Largactial (thorazine) would be my first choice. I was on it for a while (until I lactated) and I felt so good on it. I think second would be the Risperidone.

Most definately sroquel.. theres literature supporting its use in bipolar depression.. plus, it has the lowest rates of EPS of the atypicals..
check it out

As the other posters suggested, Seroquel has recently been the focus of much attention for its antidepressant potential.
Zyprexa might be better yet; Clozaril even better.
Risperdal for comorbid OCD.
I have been on all the atypicals except for Clozaril. I think they all have the potential to act as augmentors of antidepressants.
I know one person for whom Risperdal 2.0mg + Seroquel 50mg act synergistically to bring about a robust antidepressant effect. Without the Risperdal, this same person needs a minimum of 800mg of Seroquel to do the job. This combination might be an ideal treatment for your OCD + depression.

Hello again,
I agree with the general comment of SLS that others beside seroquel have antidepressant qualities.. a psychopharm who used to treat me demonstrated in a trial that risperdal and zyprexa both had an equal antidepressant response.. i think it generally comes down to side effects... ive found risperdal to be nauseating and causes sexual problems yet has low sedative qualities... zyprexa is highly sedating, and has the most considerable weight gain but probably has the fastest onset... whereas seroquel is moderately sedating with less weight gain.. this is just my opinion, im sure many on this board have experienced similar and very different SEs from these drugs..

Hard to say. On paper seroquel looks the best. But it makes me extremely depressed. Sedation and dry mouth is pretty intense. You know how mileage varies. Zyprexa is good. Risperdal has more of an activating antidepressant effect similar to amisulpride at very low doses, but then has a lethargic feel to it at medium or high doses. In a psychiatry book I was reading they said stelazine was similar to amisulpride.
In my own experiences, nothing beats amisulpride. For me it was fantastic for depression and after a few weeks for social anxiety too. But oh my did it have horrendous sexual side effects from elevated prolactin levels (risperdal does that too). My second favorite is zyprexa.

Hey Phillipa! How are you!
yes, there is no real problems of mixing any of them with Nardil, although there has been speculation that it is better to use old neuroleptics with Nardil....
Love Ace!

GEODON
For me, Geodon is the best anti-depressant I have ever used (and I have tried them ALL). Geodon has true and significant SNRI properties

Just curious, Ace, if Nardil works so well for you why do want to add an AP? Cecilia

Hi,
Personally I really like Zyprexa (10mg) it really calms me down and lifts my mood for about 7 days after taking just the one.
I wouldn't take it every day though as I'm not sure what affect it would have on me then.
I can only comment on Zyprexa as I've not tried any of the other ant-psychotics.
Kind Regards....Denise

I was on the largactal for 2 weeks at 25 mg. It helped from the fist dose.
Risperidone I was taking .5 mg twice a day. I also lactated within 2 weeks. It wasn't sedating either. I remember taking it while I worked.

The atypicals are all pretty popular; personally, I'd recommend abilify (at or below 10mgs). Moban and Loxapine are sometimes used among the old ones; Moban might have some MAOI type action though, so that could be problematic.

BUT..Its anti-psychotic properties screwed with my bipolar, worsened it dramatically, and accelerated the mood cycling!
Don't be left off-guard if you have bipolar or other mood disorder, I'd say.

Abilify 2.5mg helps w. my low level bipolar depression. No weight gain/loss. some increased anxiety at startup, but goes away and actually helps w. anxiety after about 10 days.
