Hi,
I have a long history of immune problems and problems with fatigue as well as severe chronic depression. I was recently diagnosed by a pdoc whom I respect enormously with Bipolar II. However, I immediately had to move to St. Louis and I need to find someone here to begin treatment. I am looking for somone who is very bright and innovative. If you have any recommendations, I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks,
Becca

I live in the St. Louis area. I'll do some checking for you through my T (psychologist), etc., and other avenues to see if any names come up.

Hi. I'm not familiar with St. Louis, but I just looked at Dr. Ivan Goldberg's website, "Depression Central." He has a link for doctors throughout the US who specialize in treating mood disorders. He lists two doctors in St. Louis:
1) C. Robert Cloninger, M.D. at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
2) Luis Giuffra, M.D., Ph.D.
Dept. of Psychiatry
One Barnes-Jewish Plaza
St. LouisI must emphasize that I don't know anything about either of these doctors, other than the fact that they were listed on Dr. Ivan Goldberg's website, which is a reputable source.
You said that you have great respect for your previous doctor. Would it be possible for him to help you find a new doctor in St. Louis? Even if he doesn't know someone directly, he may be able to help you indirectly. I have found that, without a referral, it can be difficult to get an appointment with the best and brightest doctors in any given specialty. I think you would stand a much better chance of finding the right doctor if your previous doctor would call or write a letter of referral to one of the doctors in St. Louis.
Good luck. Let us know how you're doing.
Sarah

Hi,
Thanks for the help. My doctor actually made contact with the head of the psychiatry department at the major teaching hospital here and they were able to give me only two suggestions of who to see. One was very expensive and didn't take my insurance and the other was dissapointing enough at our first appointment that I don't think I will go back. I don't think my former pdoc knows any other routes to finding a good doctor here and if he wrote a letter of referral it might be to someone that I had just heard was good, which might be a little weird. Thank for the information from Ivan Goldberg's site. I'll check those out. :-)Becca
