I never took it long enough to get past the akathisia. However some say that this forms early and disappears later. This will, of course, vary.

Meanwhile, like all antipsychotics, if you wish to stay on Abilify, there are a handful of things you can try to mask the akathisia.

* beta blockers, especially propranolol, but any non cardioselective one (there are about 4-5 of them)

* benzodiazepines, there are at least a half dozen of them to try, including Klonopin

* anticholinergics, at least 3-4 well known ones, from less lethargic to more lethargic, including Akineton (biperiden), Cogentin (benztropine) -- more cognitively impaired, Artane (trihexyphenidyl), and in an emergency OTC standby, Benadryl (diphenhydramine)

Artane was about on par with Akineton... I don't exactly remember, I think I prefer the latter, because it also helps with tremor better (somewhere on the net I saw a 1970s poster for Akineton and a glass being shaken -- it was one of the early anti-Parkinson drugs). In either case, I had to watch the number of pills or half pills per day or else I would achieve atropine toxicity, which all anticholinergics can do.

my experience seems to be that the grape seed extract was contraindicated for me with abilify, causing akathisia...! within half a day after i stopped the grape seed, the akathisia subsided...
