Ritalin Effectiveness in SSRI Apathy Flagging...

Posted by University on January 14, 2006, at 22:04:38

Have been on Prozac for over 13 years. For the last five or six years, I have taken modafinil and methylphenidate (mostly the latter, since the former wasn't covered by insurance). I'm up to 80mg of Ritalin a day, and it's just not enough. I see my pdoc on Monday. I'm looking into modafinil again (my insurance will cover now, because I have a sleep apnea DX). But what about adrafinil? Since it's not FDA-approved, where can I get it? Or Piracetam? Any suggestions?
TIA

Hello University,

Dr. Bob doesn't want us to discuss methods of obtaining medications that are not available in this country.

I was wondering whether you've ever tried either Focalin (an isomer of methylphenidate) or Dexedrine to augment the ssri? Since your insurance now covers Provigil, perhaps you won't have to bother looking into another stimulant.

You said you have sleep apnea, so I'm assuming you had a sleep study. Can you tell me a little bit about it? Is there any way other than a sleep study to tell whether you have apnea?

Thanks.

Sarah

Have you tried Hydergine in the 4.5-9mg. range? If not that is definitely something to look into.
