I started taking 150 Wellbutrin XL and Klonopin and already feel a bit better. I am upping the Wellbutrin next week to 300 mg.
Here is my easy quick question : How long does Wellbutrin XL usu. take to start working? I have looked on the boards and , even though I am sure its out there.. I can't seem to find it .Thanks

AD's generally take 6-8 weeks to begin to see the depression start to lift. This would include Wellbrutin, which may give you an energy boost at once. Klonipins effect starts at once.

I thinks its very possable wellbturin can have a noticable effect the first day, however like most AD`S more ong term usage allows more build up and more therputic action.

They say that it takes 3-4 weeks for any med to really get into your system and for you to feel the full effetcs. Me personally, I think you will know after a week if it has a chance of working. Sorry if I am impatient, but thats the way I feel.
Hope it works out for you.

i thought that the 6-8 week thing is due to serotonin receptor resensitization (presumably 5HT-1A), which can take a while, and that other ADs may take time to kick in, although it is not by the same mechanism.

In reply to non-SRI drugs not tied to same 6-8 week schedule?, posted by iforgotmypassword on December 5, 2005, at 3:40:21

Reuptake inhibition happens at once, there is no need for a build up, steady state of most meds within a few days; down stream systems seem to adjust over 6-8 weeks with the antidepressant effects kicking in then. 6-8 weeks is also the point neurogenisis starts. Many do see improvement in the first few weeks; reuptake inhibition amps some people up, giving them more energy and many AD's are sedating, which improves sleep or reduces anxiety levels. there is also placebo effect or just the relief you are actively fighting the depression.

In just a week I feel a lot better, but I am betting it is not b/c of the AD effect .. basically I was on Serzone and stumbled around cloudy headed , and still had lots of anxiety.
Switched to Klonpin 1 mg morn , 1 mg afternoon and the anxiety has practically disappeared , I am so thankful b/c all that worry wears your body down too on top of a sedating medicine.
Also like everyone says , the Wellbutrin definitely gives me a kick start in the morning and helps get motivated. ( the Klonopin counteracts the anxiety I had on Wellbutrin alone)
Look forward to see how it goes after the 4-8 weeks it takes to "really" work.
Thanks for the replies
Jim
