I have been on SSRI's/SNRI's for over 10 years now. Originally I took Paxil which made me overweight. In 2000 I switched to effexor and was able to keep my weight down. A few months ago I switched to Lexapro and have packed on 10 pounds - even though I keep active. Have people experienced this?
If it continues this way I will switch to Cymbalta. Any ideas? What about adding Wellbutrin? I have lots of questions but my Dr.'s have very few answers. Help!
I'm too old to get fat AND lose my libido.

Hi,
I was just curious as to why you switched from Effexor to Lexapro in the first place? You said that the Effexor was keeping your weight down, was it not helping your mood? I was on Lexapro for about 4 months and gained a whopping 15 LBS!!! About a month ago my doctor switched me to the Effexor and I have already lost 3 LBS!!! I just dont feel as hungry or something. I liked the way the Lexapro made me feel....but the weight gain was the pits! Everyone is different, but if the Effexor was working, maybe ask your doc. to go back on it????
Good Luck!!!

Oh no. I was on Effexor for over 5 years. It just pooped out after a while. The depression and OCD started coming back slowly. I've been told by many sources that meds should preferably be switched after 3 years.
Gaining weight can be depressing as hell. Things are bad enough.
Good lcuk to you as well.

Yes, I have heard that meds.do eventually "poop-out". Were you on the highest dosage of Effexor? Just curious. Thanks for the info. about needing to switch after 3 years. I had not heard that before.
Here's to finding an AD with no weight gain!!!!

My highest Effexor dose was 300mg. No weight gain, and the sexual side effects were minimal (not that it matters anymore). Paxil pooped out on me at about 3 years too. Its different for different people I suspect. Effexor pooped out on my sister after about 3 years. She nneds to change to another , but won't.

They say wellbutrin is good for losing wt. Not a very good antidepressant unless you are bipolar. Fondly, Phillipa
