I think its great that Ame Sans Vie has such a creative, helpful doc. I think in *most* cases that kind of med regimine would be excessive, but it sounds like he is extremely resistant to sedatives (which would explain the mix of benzos and barbs)...so that's part of the reason for that mix. Plus, as long as he's not selling drugs or abusing them, there's really no reason to avoid the use of controlled substances if they really are the *best* option. I imagine this doctor's other patients have med regimines similar to ours (possibly a little heavier on benzos and/or stims)...I also bet his/her patients are doing a lot better than those of use stuck with a "take your symbyax and call me in 3 months" doctor.

Ame Sans Vie, has a LONG history of medication failours, and the Amphetamines, barbiturates, combinations has proven helpfull to him, HELL even Seconal didn't help his TR insomnia, which responded only to Tuinal. I say Dexedrine+Desoxyn, Good luck to him!!
Ame Sans Vie, is an inspiration and guiding light into what SOME folks need to live normally!!

It might be excessive but if u evalute each one it isnt absurd.
Most arent aware cause they dont get the oppurtunity but personaly i found having BOTH klonopin and xanax is VERY therputic.
In fact i have been doing very well this week since adding the two togther.
I take xanax during the day,and any excess anxiety ill use klonopin,works like a charm.
Also xyrem goes well with stimulants.

I thought that the limit was 10mg, but 16mg, i guess went past the line.
I hope thats not illegal.
Desoxyn and Dexedrine my god, i would be wired out.

There is no "legal limit". That is a myth. BTW, 16mg of xanax may seem like a lot, but there are no hard rules considering response to benzodiazepines. In fact, it takes 10mg/day alprazolam to completely block panic attacks for many people.
I take 90mg phenelzine (may go up to 105 or 120 now that I Take testosterone) and up to 24mg buprenorphine per day, and would find benefit in taking the dosages of amphetamines that he does (usually they only START to fully help me at dosages equivalent to 40mg d-amphetamine per day, and I could easily take 120). When I get a private psychiatrist someday I intend to get back on d-amphetamine or d-meth. If I could afford it, I would be using illicit methamphetamine, that is how much of a difference it makes for me, despite my existing medication.
I have given many friends my extra buprenorphine, and those who do not listen to my dosing recommendations, i.e. NO MORE THAN 2MG TO START usually wind up vomiting wildly. Even when I was not opioid-tolerant, 2mg barely produced an effect in me. Dosages are arbitrary; what they are does not matter so long as they make you feel good and do not cause toxicity.

I dont think there are really dose limits on most medications...the deal is, especially with psychiatric meds, that doses usually fall along a curve, and most shrinks aim to keep doses inside the curve...dipping below could cause problems with efficacy, going above could cause problems with side-effects. But...thats just a general rule. Now and then, doses will need to be adjusted upward or down from the prevailing norm to make an individual patient feel better...thats part of the "art" of psychopharmacology.

He may need this amount....and Xanax is a brilliant drug.....for the most part with no addiction potential. I have been on 2mg for years with barely any need to rise dose.
Ame would be medicated like this for a reason...but still I think that in many cases one drug can take the place of another...

Its not illeagal at all...it's just beyond thereaputic guidlines which reccomed 8mg as max dose per day
