Monitoring lithium levels?

Posted by Emily Elizabeth on September 27, 2005, at 21:16:54

Hi all,

As some of you know, I added Li to my mix a few months ago to help treat my depression. I was wondering how often Li levels should be taken? My pdoc took one abt 6(?) weeks ago and found that it was where we wanted it to be for augmentation (.5). Is that something that will remain stable or is it something that we need to check again? How soon?

Thanks!
EE

My doctor's never had my Li checked. What's more I seem to feel much better when I don't take it. Four years of my life wasted, feeling exhausted

Doesn't anyone have their Li levels checked? (nm)

Hi Emily,

I have been away for a while and returning
i saw your lithium post. When I started,
I was checked frequently, every few weeks,
then every month, every few months etc.
for a year or so. With stabilization, it
has now been a constant once a year and so
has the lithium blood level, barring unusual
weather or physical circumstances.

Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised that so few people responded to this thread! I guess that they don't have them checked all that regularly, even if they should? My pdoc is pretty on her game, so I'll ask her.

Best,
EE
