Ambien side effect

Posted by krzeekat on September 24, 2005, at 4:11:54

My doc just prescribed Ambien as I have not been able to sleep much. The first night I took it, I slept for 5-6 hours straight but when I woke up I couldn't go back to sleep. I felt a little funny the rest of the day but I also wasn't dragged-out tired.

My doc told me not to take it every night. So, I skipped a night. The next time I took it, I woke up several times but went right back to sleep until around 6 am (went to sleep about midnight). Later in the morning, I had some serious nausea. It went away after an few hours.

I took it again last night as I need the sleep. Again, I woke several times and finally got up about 5:30 (went to sleep around 11pm).

Well this morning, I got horrible nausea and ultimately ended up vomiting. I also felt "weirded out" like I was going a bit nuts. Needless to say, I'm not taking anymore.

Have any of you Ambien users ever experienced anything like this?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi, i take ambien most nights, and many times i wake after 4 good hours of sleep, and have, like you did, trouble going back to sleep, but if i wake at that time, i am groggy until lunchtime!!
ambien works well for me, but i wish it would keep me sleeping longer. i never had the nausea problem, but i would say ambien is not a good choice in your situation, maybe sonata, or even melatonin would be helpful, take care...john

If you skip a night, you can expect at least one sleepless night before your regular sleep pattern returns.

I had an appt. a few days ago and my Doc offered ambien cr instead of the standard ambien I have been on for about a year now.
I turned it down having just about learned my lesson with 'if it ain't broke...'

I don't know what it is but ambien seems to be able to round out my sleep in a way that nothing else ever has. I sleep less but wake actually feeling rested. Also, I actually wake. Without my ambien, regardless of what time I'm up, I am not fully awake till later in the day.

Ambien is a godsend for me!!!
Kaye
