My dr increased my dose of wellbutrin from 150mgs to 300mgs since it seemed like the 150 wasn't enough. That was 2 days ago and yesterday and today I've been VERY TIRED. My doc did switch me from the xl to the sr and from name brand to generic. I was just wondering if anybody had this as an initial side effect and if it goes away??? Help please...

I'm also on 10mgs of lexapro in the evening and was in a car accident back in March (as some of you know) and have to take pain pills (vicoden) daily for pain. But they haven't affected anything before. I was taking them with the wb 150 and no problem. It's just been the last couple of days on the 300mgs. I CAN'T STAND BEING SO TIRED AND UNMOTIVATED...

I would call your doc and ask what s/he thinks. The way that drugs interact w/ each other can be so complex. I haven't had that problem w/ WB, but I have had cases where an increase in drug B will intensify drug A's side effects. So, it might be a side effect from the vicodin, not the WB.

the only thing i can think of is that maybe its kind of like the side effects some people get from stimulants (most people get stimulated; some people, at certain doses, will actually be lulled to sleep by amphetamines or ritalin). Since wellbutrin is kind of stimulant-ish (its chemically related to tenuate, a stimulant-type, non-amphetamine diet pill), maybe this is the kind of thing you're experiencing? I guess it could be the lex+wellbutrin, but usually wellbutrin bumps up energy levels when added to an SSRI. As for the vicodin...who knows, really. In general though, opiates are pretty bengign when it comes to drug-drug interactions, as long as you avoid oversedation (for example, one should avoid vicodin+phenobarbital combos when possible). Good luck!

I am fine taking up to 200mg of Wellbutrin. I love the Wellbutrin 150XL, but I needed more. My doc bumped me up to the next level - 300mg XL, which made me a zombie. I could barely function I was so exhausted. I took two naps a day and tried to consume my body weight in caffine. When I talked to my doctor about it, he seemed shocked. (I wonder if they ever read about the drugs they perscribe?!). He said to stick with it and maybe the sleepiness would wear off. I couldn't do that. I have a job I need to be at and alert!
I asked to be taken down to 200mg SR. I don't like the SR as much - the XL is nice and smooth, but they don't make 200XL!
200 SR a day works pretty good without the sleepiness. Makes me anxious, but not depressed. Keep trying - you'll find a dose that works.

SO, now my neurologist added a pill for my nerve pain: neurtonin. I get home and google it (like I do everything) and see it's taken as a mood stabilizer too and could add more depression to some. So, let me update you:
8am I start my morning with 150mg wellbutrin sr.
10am 1-2 vicoden for pain
12- 200mgs neurtonin
4pm- 150mgs wellbutrin
6pm- 1-2 vicoden for pain
8pm- 10mgs lexapro
9pm- 600 mgs neutoninalso if i have any anxiety i take xanex and if my leg pain is unbearable after the vicoden i take a muscle relaxer called tizadine???
So, I'm a person who can't stand pills and used to only take lexapro and since my accident in March (car) I've had to add all of these other pills and now with my doc adding neurtonin, I'm really upset. I'm scared of how I may react. I'm scared I'm going to continue to take all of these pills and OD or something. I just want to feel better...When will I feel better???
Has anybody takin these kind of mix of pills? I need to feel secure in taking them, I'm so scared I'm shaking and think I might spin into an anxiety attack.

In reply to MY DOC ADDED ANOTHER PILL- HELP ASAP!, posted by mellymel_d on September 18, 2005, at 11:30:27
While I do not deal with the pain issues that you do, I do have severe depression and anxiety. I also take a number of meds including lexapro and neurontin. I started neurontin to address my anxiety and it was very helpful. It took the edge off for sure and I felt like I could better concentrate. I also have known a few people who took it for pain and found it quite helpful.
More reassurance: several docs have described it to me as a very safe drug, that doesn't react strongly to other meds in your system. Additionally, my understanding is that it is processed more through the kidneys rather than the liver, so that makes a difference in terms of interactions, etc. Also, you are on a low to moderate dose. It should not be too much for your body to take.
Give it a try and if it is problematic, you can call your doc and stop the med. Don't miss out on something that sounds like it could really help you.
Best,
EE

I haven't taken quite that many at once but I'm on a daily regimen of medication as well (that concerns me).
Mine are more for allergies/sinus/inflamation but it's still a lot of medicine. I feel sorry for my poor liver so I add Milk Thistle to my daily mix.
I don't think you would OD on what you listed. You can do a search online and check to see if any of your meds would react to another. I've done that a few times.
Also, my dad is a diabetic, has chronic back pain ( degenerative discs), Hepatitis C, emphysema, Bipolar, etc.. He is on 12 different medications daily; Klonopin, Seroquel, Lamictal, Lexapro, Morphine, neurontin, Coumadin, Muscle Relaxers, heart pills, etc.. I can't even list them all he's on so many. He's been like this for 4 years and he's still alive.
He even abuses his meds and is still kickin', so as long as you take them as prescribed, you should be okay.
My father and my father in law are both on Neurontin and the only thing they've ever said was it made them sleepy.
It does seem to help my father in law with his nerve damage, and I have a friend on it for migraines that it also helps.
I know the fear of adding more meds- I've had weird reactions too. I hope it goes well for you!

"My father and my father in law are both on Neurontin and the only thing they've ever said was it made them sleepy."
I will agree with that 100%. I took some after I posted that last post and passed out for about an hour and I never take nap. So of course I woke up very anxious feeling like their was something wrong and that all these pills were bad for me. Then I read your post and felt much better (still anxious) but feeling a little justified about it.
I don't really believe that all these pills will make me OD and my docs have checked that they all work well with each other but sometimes my mind gets running away with these little thoughts and become this huge thing that I might just die from. I know - I'm strange...

its good to be vigilant in checking up on your med combos. Take my experience: I had a combo that was all psychiatric meds, all from one doctor. My doc added something...one day, I woke up feeling anxious, then I had a rapid heartbeat and I could feel my blood pressure rising; then I had ringing in my ears and I started seeing blue dots. I made an appointment--after taking an anti-anxiety med, my blood pressure was over 160/90, or something ridiculous like that (its usually almost perfect; 115-120/80). Your med combo sounds good, but don't feel bad about double-checking..its your body and your life, after all.

I LOVE WHEN YOU BUTT IN PHILLIPA :-) I trust your opinion too. I usually google med combinations by typing all of the meds names with commas and seeing what comes up. Or I type in "anybody taking ...,....,...and .... or something like that. When I'm fixated on things (like I am right now) I'll type all sorts or things to find information. And then of course, I post here, for all of my stranger friends to calm me down...

Thanks for the information I didn't know you could do this. Multiple meds. And thanks for letting me butt in. PS is the Board off now? I can't get Psychbabble. I can only respond to posts. Fondly, Phillipa

Wow! Wellbutrin and Lexapro?! Why *two* anti-depressants?????
PLEASE go get a second AND third opinion and see if you really need to be on all these meds.

>I had really bad anxiety in the past and the lexapro helped it all on it's own...Previously I've taken zoloft and paxil neither helped - I felt like a zombie. No feelings at all. But I was so happy with the lex and then BAM one day got smashed from behind by a car, I was in the hospital and when I got home had bad neck, back and sciatica in the leg (on top of this the bad pain was in the leg that I have scleroderma in.) Since everything was advancing and getting so bad they started to test to make sure the scleroderma wasn't out of remission (been in remission @ 10 years) SO I started getting really depressed on top of the anxiety and no longer was the lex helping. SO they added effexor- BAD BAD MOVE I had three horrible weeks on it and then the docs switched me to wellbutrin.
Anyway- what I was getting to is I see quite a few doc's: I go see specialists at Stanford for the scleroderma. I see a neurologist for the extensive nerve pain in my leg. I see a primary care doc (whom I've been seeing for 15+ years and she knows every single thing about me) and I see a therapist (whom listens to me complain and says don't worry -u worry too much, everything will be okay = in a very calm voice) All of the docs know the meds I am on and swear they are all okay with each other. I say if that's true- why am I still all screwed up???
The WB was supposed to help my depression, help lose weight, bring my sex drive back and stop smoking. YEAH as I sit here crying, on the couch (seperate from hubby) smoking and with bon-bons next to me, I find that very hard to believe. I've been on WB 10 days at 150mg and now 5 days at 300mgs= NOTHING.
Anyway, the docs told me the other day I just might end up with chronic nerve pain and be on the neurtonin for a very long time for it- So I'm suppossed to sleep my life away???
Sorry this is so long- I'm just so upset and feel at a loss...
This is the end of the thread.
