Hi all,
So I've been on 75 mg Effexor since January. Got the sexual side effects a while later and the pdoc prescribed Wellbutrin. I can't think of what dosage I'm doing at this point. While my sex drive / libido is good, the delay in achieving orgasm and/or inability to do so is incredibly frustrating. So, a couple days ago I quit the Wellbutrin cold turkey to see if that would help. Today has been a horrible day and I feel like slitting my wrists. So I started the Wellbutrin again.
Anybody have any advice for me? Clearly cold-turkeying was a bad idea. Don't know if the orgasm problem has been rectified, but I sure do feel lousy.
Also, I'm finding as though it feels today like I've been hiding my problems away underneath the veil of medication, and despite feeling lousier today than I have in a long while, I feel like it's given me a glimpse into actually having to deal with the issues that are really giving me grief instead of relying on the meds to make it feel OK.
I don't know that I'm looking for any particular response to this -- I just really needed to get it off my chest, and I know that this board is a great outlet and can be incredibly supportive. So thanks for letting me rant a little. I hope I feel better soon.
Jen

Hey there! i know that when i quit the effexor at one point, i felt the exact same way u do re: the wellbutrin. i had all these feelings that were *hidden* and it was so weird to feel again. i did however have to go back on it~the mind over matter was worth yet another try though ; )
i am sorry u feel so awful and i wld. start the wellbutrin asap, at least until u talk to ur doc.. as far as my exp. w/ sexual s/e, wellbutrin is the only med. that helped me even have the desire vs. the effexor which kills it for me. i hope u feel better soon and i wld. definately start the wellbutrin again and see ur doc.. ((((hugs))))

Well that's where the therapy comes in. To help you deal with those feelings. So it almost sounds like the medications are only a temporary bandaid. Fondly, Phillipa

Well, first of all, it's recommended that you taper off all medications, to avoid just the kind of rebound depression you're describing. Talk to your doctor about what might help with that.
As for the delayed orgasm, cyproheptidine helped me a lot when I took it for sexual side effects with Effexor. I took it only when I planned to want an orgasm, about an hour before I wanted to scream with passion and delight, and it worked fine.
If the Wellbutrin/Effexor combo works for you, I guess it makes sense to keep taking it. Otherwise, if the Effexor alone did what you need, then I'd say talk to your doctor about a taper schedule on the Wellbutrin.
Hope that helps.
This is the end of the thread.
