So i see a new doc today, since my old one has been 5 years and counting,i figured time to get a second opinion on some things.
Well after being 25 MINUTES late to our FIRST appt, and not giving me the proper paperwork to fill out from the start i finally get called only to fill out the paper work in her office.
So bad start already, well after we go through the usual conversation,we speak on meds, after telling her what i have been on numerous times,we begin to talk about a new med for me.
I specifaly ask about topamax, her response, ehh its ok for anxiety,uh ya i have anxiety???? and...
Then i ask about keppra,"oh ive used it,just not enough information out that yet."Ok so u used it,ur familiar with it......
Then i tell her i had partial SUCCESS adding a stimulant dexadrine to parnate, and ask about that possablitliy.
So what does she send me hime with?? A friggin sample card of LAMICTAL!!!! I told her i was on that already!!!!!!!!!
So why does this woman ignore two requests of topamax, which she said nothing bad about but that it was GOOD for anxiety, ignores my request for keppra, ignores my comment on adding a stimulant, and comes from.....
LEFT field with lamictal. At this point i practucaly pleaded with her for any of the three i mentioned,at least give me a reason why u arent giving me it,instead NOTHING!!! UGHH
So 2 weeks waiting and i go home with in MY VIEW crap, garbage i have taken before, what am i supposed to do with this i tried it already,i dident WANT IT DAMN IT!!!!
Im so discouraged now,i know people have had success with lamictal but for me its crap, garbage, useless,i waited all this time for that!!!!!!!
I spoke clearly and intelligently, she had to look up parnate dident even know anything about it,and it boils me that she totaly ignored me,she already knew what she was gonna give me and nothing i said mattered, then people wanna know why we search to order our OWN meds online.
Im soooo fed up with these docs,if id been 25 min late id be out of luck, its happened, but every visit they the pdocs are always "running behind" Today was really enough to make me never wanna see another one of these fake docs again, lamictal i already tossed it in the thrash,2 weeks waste of time, and cash directly out of my pocket, and i have gotten no where, what a waste.

Man, i an so sorry to hear that, but it seems par for the course with most people lately!!
i am starting with a new pdoc next week, i hope i have a little better luck, but i am already nervous and skeptical. the dr. i go to now doesn't listen to anything i say or printout on-line about meds. i saw your pic yesterday, i lift too, and everytime i go in with an alternative idea, she says, stay away from the health food store, when i mentioned nadh, [a co-enzyme of B3] she said, "i don't condone steroid use"!! that's when i knew i needed a change! she hasn't got a clue!! i really hope you find the right med, i feel your frustration, i was pissed for 2 weeks after my last visit to her!!
good luck...john

Yup, I'm in the same boat with my new doctor. She forgets what I've been on, suggests medications I am already taking (no joke..."I think we should start you on Lithium". "I've been on Lithium for over a year!!"). She seems to never take a look over my chart at all. After my first appointment with her I went home, cried, drank too much vodka, and the next day made an appointment with a new doctor. I'm trying that one next week. If I don't like this one, I'm afraid I might give up hope in all psychiatrists. ~Autumn~

Yess been there,my doc hardly looks at me,moves around like shes adhd, cuts me off, pays no mind to me or anything i say, huff and puffs when i say im not being helped like its my fault and im inconviencing her,70 bucks for 10 min,i think i should be treated better.
Its like beat the clock to try to get a word in,and if i try to prsent anything knowledagble like papers on a unconventional med or something she totay ignores me and blows me off,she has already in her mind set what she will do,i might as well not even be sitting there.Im in and out of there so fast my head spins.
I went to this sec doc to see if maybe it just was my current doc only, but NO the new one was just as bad, well thats it this morning im making a decision that i will do my own research,i will use these docs for their signatures, and i will obtain whatever else i need,i.e certain meds on my own, these docs are all photo copies of each other they are all trained the same way,its horrable.
I am glad im not the only one, thanks,i just wished i dident go i just wasted 70 dollers of money i dont have,im tired of throwing away hard earned money on these docs. Its not right its robbery.
I wish i walked out after she was late 30 min like i was going to,instead i said, stay put lets see how it goes,i should have got up and left when my gut told me too.I would have saved a lot of grief and money.
I still can not believe with all we talked about, she came out of NO WHERE with lamictal,it was prob the drug she had samples of and thats why,i mean i was soooooo upset when she handed me it i wanted to throw it back in her face and say "what am i a moron" did u not listen to a damn thing i said,u take this crap.

Gosh Willy,
It sounds like your pdoc is as bad as mine. I think I'm just gonna get meds from my GP.

That sucks.
I tell my doctor, give me something that "works" and then I will stay away from the health food store.

I hate that. Its like some doctors refuse to give you a med you suggest even if it is a good idea, its this whole friggen controll issue.
I tried reverse psyhology on my psychiatrist and it worked.
First apointment I asked for a benzo, and he said "I don't really like prescribing benzo's"
The second apointment I said "The last thing I want to take for my anxiety is a benzo", he said "why not, they can be really helpfull, try have you tried clonazepam ?"

Willy, it has often been said that the entry criteria, medical training, internship, and psych training are the worst possible for the requirements of the job. Add some less than wonderful reasons for becoming psychdrs (easier than other fields, half crazy themselves).
But even so.....I must just be lucky where I live. My GP bulkbills (costs nothing), talks about anything we like for 30 minutes, (Bolivia, friendship, psychoanalysis, growing older, painful deaths etc) lends me books and offered to lend me his car(!) once to go 200km away. I figured what he was doing was really best described as pastoral care of the nonreligious variety.
Interestingly he did a PhD in philosophy on ideas of health vs illness, before doing his med degree. He does without a receptionist.
Isn't there some ghetto of nice alternative people somewhere around where you live. They can be a bit thin on the ground these days.

I've been lucky - i wish there were more
time for my treatment, but we are pressed
in Canada. The thing that strikes me on this subject
is how prominent the problems are in
the psychiatric field. We're just not
there yet. I don't think any other medical
field is filled with such confusion and
guess work.Squiggles
