Sorrry i meant YMMV-Your millage may vary-yes
Valium stoped being Yummy for me a long time ago-I remember being pleasantly euphoric on 3 2mg pills a few years ago! my Gaba receptors have been blunted for too long by the 20x stronger binding capacity of 4-6mg day Clonazepam-2 years on-MISTAKE
.5mg Clonazepam (Orange)=10mg Valium (Blue) according to many benzo equivenency tables
6mg Clonazepam=120mg Valium!!
And yes Clonazepam made me dribble!!-excess salivation-a listed SE, and make me depressed-althought i didn't know it-you never do? do you?
A psychiatrist mentioned to me that the doses i took were what a psychotic inpatient or Eplipetic would take, then put me on 40mgs Valium a day. I now am scripted 20mg althought i can skip days and often do, and had a stash of over 400 5mg tabs a while ago. GOLLY
I do not "feel" Valium at all now.
Cheers-hehe

Paulwell now you've scared me. I don't feel emotion anymore either. If something happens that would have made me shake or my heart pound in the past it doesn't now. I better try and cut down on the valium. Do you think it will help? I want to feel again. Anger, anxity, fear. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi ya Phillipa,
I still feel emotions, what i meant was that i dont 'feel' the valium working in any discernable scence-just back ground "being there" i guess
Cheers

you guys need to try Ativan. Its not really i would say addictive, because it doesnt produce a sense of wellbeing. It just decreases alertness and eases sometension if there is.
Also i worked with NO imparment with 1mg.

i was!
but it didnt effect any phobic symptoms, i mean 6mg is the highest dose, i hardly felt anything. but i was going through severe nuerosis then. I took 2mg Tablets three times daily. Usally first around 8-9. next usally 1. Last around 5-6 at night. It didnt do anything. Exept release some abdomn. tension, and decreased alertness.
But somepeople nerves are diffrent, and i thought it would be a good med for general tension.
Not Xanax.
Cheers, and stay on your ritilin for now

My pdoc is pretty wonderful in understanding that some benzos work better in different situations. So I have in my cabinet, or access at anytime, to any of them. Here are my ratings:
Lorazepam: 8 nice, mellow but doesn't fog the mind:
Valium: 8 good for floppy muscle feeling, sleeping, muscle spasms. I like Valium!
Xanax: 8 If only I could afford the XR version (3 times as expensive). Quick to act, nice and mellow, but makes me tired and wears off quickly.
Temazepam: Good for sleep but mildly depressing afterwards
Klonopin: This one can go many ways. Sometimes I feel nothing, sometimes it's just what I need, sometimes it depresses me.
One they don't make anymore, but was my favorite was Librium. Good old Librium.
Of course, if I had my druthers I'd chuck the lot and just take opiates. I don't get addicted to any of them so what the heck, opiates make me feel better quicker than anything.

Librium is still made :-) It's also available as generic chlordiazepoxide.

I only take 2 right now.
Clonazepam 4mg
Restoril 30mg
I was on Lorazepam but that was discontinued.
Well you are ready for anything with all those!

Depending on what's going on, I'll take the one or more that seem most appropriate. I have a funny thing happening, which I'm discovering is not so unfamiliar. I have bipolar disorder, don't know if it's I or II, probably I. I am extremely, exquisitely sensitive to many meds in the SSRI and othe AD families. I have paradoxical reactions to many meds. I can take gobs and gobs of benzos for as long as I need them and never suffer a withdrawal.
I think there's something kerfluey in my GABA receptors that contributes to the anxiety of bipolar. In short, there are some drugs I only need a few micrograms of, and others I need handfulls. And I kid you not. I can stop them in a New York minute with no backlash (except for sleeping pills). I have certainly developed a tolerance considering the large amounts I can take, but not a dependence.
If there were something else I could take to give me the peace and calmness I so much need at times of stress and frenzy, I'd take that instead. Cause benzos just dull but don't bring soothing. Last I heard, Opium dens were still outlawed.

OK, kiddos. My brief story. Along with a long-standing major depression that eventually resolved/dissolved into bipolar, I also came down with fibromyalgia in 2000. It was most likely working before that and whether it's chicken or egg because of the hit the HPA axis takes because of stress, who knows. I only know it was the most dibilitating distressing, agonizing experience I could imagine.
It's like the pain of a severe flu, that aching, pulling, stabbing pain all over, including the base of the brain. My normal severe mood disorder kicked up a few notches because I could no longer work, the worry of no money, and on top of it all, could not sleep to save my soul. There is a fatigue so great and pain so sharp that I could only weave or crawl to the bathroom with the help of my husband. For two years, half of that time I was in bed in utter despair. There is no cure for fibro and I could only wonder at my future and the unfairness of depriving deserving souls of Dr. Kevorkian.
My doctor tried opiates and while they didn't help much with the pain, they made me feel better emotionally. Nothing helped with the pain because the pain is in the limbic system, not the body, so the best anyone could do was to try to make me comfortable, basically knock me out, until the flare subsided. But within an hour of taking an oxycontin or hydrocodone, I could feel a surge of energy and well-being I so very much needed to keep going on.
I'm very lucky. I'm about 80% better from the fibro after going down a long convoluted road of discovery but I still maintain that opiates are vastly underrated for relieving psychic pain.
No, I don't take them now. They constipate me and that's a critical factor in my staying well. But I do know the difference between soothing and comfort and just dullness. I take the bare minimum of drugs and maintain pretty well with a healthy lifestyle. But when I need drugs, I need 'em and I just so happen to have a nice little stash.

Hi!
>But is it available in the US?
Yes :-)
>Do you know why it went so far out of favor?
US pdocs seem to believe that the newer high potency benzos like clonazepam are more effective. I'm not convinced. I'm sure Librium is just as effective as the newer long-acting benzos. For whatever reason, Americans are very susceptible to marketing LOL!!! The newer drugs just take over.
>What was so different about it's comp?
Nothing really, it's a fairly standard benzo.
~Ed
PS. Why was Librium your favourite benzo?

> PS. Why was Librium your favourite benzo?I think nostalgia. I was going through a bad panic disorder after a stillbirth pregnancy - probabably my first true mixed state brought on by postpartum stuff (which is a typical marker for Bipolar disorder). I was zealously organic back then - wouldn't even take an aspirin or wash my floors with non-organic stuff. But finally succumbed to Librium when I couldn't take it anymore. Ahhhhh. That's all I can remember. Ahhhh. It worked quickly and stayed around and I liked the feeling. Fond and grateful memories. - Barbara
