I have never taken Xanax before.
I currently take 4mg of Clonazepam for panic.
If i switched to Xanax could i move down to 2mg a day?
I also have heard Xanax is rapid acting, clonazepam takes up to 15 min sometimes to start calming a panic.
Does anyone here take alprazolam?

Caroline you must be new to nursing. I'm an Rn. Was nationally certified in psych nursing. Lost it cause haven't nursed in 8 years. Xanax is a short-aching benzo. Very addictive. But acts very rapidly in panic attacks. Also is said to have some antidepressant properties. The pdocs get it in their heads that one benzo is more addictive than another so it goes out of vogue. Also xanax was being used as a "party drug" with alchohol. Google it. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
My p-doc put me on generic Xanax, and I find that it helps with the physical symptoms of anxiety, but doesn't really help with the emotional or worry side of anxiety. Is that normal? I'd like to not have the physical anxiety or constant worry. Is there a med is good for that, that won't cause weight gain or sexual side effects?
I only take .25 mg Xanax when I need it, and it just takes the edge off the physical side, so I don't feel like I'm getting addicted.

Phillipa, if i ask my doctor about diazepam, becuase i may switch soon, klonopin is too mentally potent, and depressoigenic.
Diazepam is similar to lorazpeam, expept i have read it has more muscle relaxation properties. Is this so.
When klonopin starts to work, i feel a slow, calm that either turns to depression, instablity, or sometimes im fine. Usally my mind is more foggy, than on lorazpam, even at 1mg compared to 2mg of Lorazepam
Oh well, hope for the best.
