You guys out there as I stare at this botle of Effexor XR 37.5 prescribed yesterday, I am panicing just thinking of taking it.. I am reallly sacred and not sure what to do...Help anyone..I really have bad anxiety attacks as it is and when i think about taking this i get so scared.. Does it really help ?? What costs? also I smoke daily ...will I have a a bad interaction??
I have near daily panic attacks .though I stil think they may be my heart but its been a year of them and they come and go so i guess it is anxiety..rgradless now i am afraid to take effexor ..what do I do..?? I am even afraid if I do choose to take it I will choke on the pill..also had badexperience with Zoloft like 7 years ago never took anything again ..i fill rxs but thats as close as ive gotten ..last year i filled lexapro..never even took
anyway people help me

If you haven't done so yet - try to find someone who will help you evaluate your biochemistry. I'm learning more and more that if NATURAL hormones, and other chemistry are out of balance it can cause all sorts of things like anxiety or depression, heart disease, you name it. Wish I had found someone who knew how to evaluate this for me 10 years ago when I was perimenopausal and started having emotional problems and panic attacks which were better for a few years and came back last year.
I'm just reading this book that makes sense out of all this. You can get the book on Amazon or perhaps your library or used book store: "Natural Hormone Replacement for Women over 45" by Jonathan V. Wright who is director of the Tahoma Clinic in Kent, WA A good read even if you're younger than that and enlightening for men as well. Naturopathic and Homeopathic doctors can help with this or find someone who can. Unfortunately, not all medical insurance covers it - and main stream MD's and therapists do not study about natural remedies, only medical remedies promoted by pharaceutical companies, etc. Knowing what I know now, it might be worth a loan if you can get your health back on track - you sound like I was a year ago and got on all those meds. which probably helped the anxiety in the short term but has messed up so many other things.
Good luck and keep us posted about what you decide to do.

Staycee.........Take the effexor!!It will help you!! I have been taking it for several years and I am doing great! I stopped one time, because I was feeling so much better I thought I didn't need it anymore, my husband and I are scuba divers, with out the drug I had a panic attack everytime I hit the water. I got back on it and I enjoy my diving again.....
Lexapro- my daughter takes it she is doing great!
Zoloft- they should take that "crap" off the market!! I was given that first- I spent 2 days in the bathroom sick. never again.
My wish for you is that you want a good life bad enough to take the steps to get there, courage is not something we have, it is something we do....
when you are feeling better you are going to want a long life and at that time ask for help to stop smoking. I will say a prayer for you.

What were your side effects? I was horribly sick from 2 days of a zoloft trial 9 years ago.. thats why I am rally anti-med ..Repeat I know but really I had a broken had last 2 mos(cast off early this week) and I took one percocet paniked and never took a pain pill again..AND I HAD PAIN! Wish I wasnt scared I really am dying to have a GREAT life ..been along time coming an dnow I am getting older and see I nee dto play an active role butthe med thing i sso scary or is this fear all part of my illness??
?? Lexapro and Effexor what is th ereal diff? as for what they help with? and does lexapro have side effcts too?

So sorry, really sorry you are having soooo much anxiety. You really need to get that under control. The only AD I ever took that helped w/ anxiety is Effexor-XR. Did you take it? Did it help? You cannot go on 24/7 anxiety. Someone needs to help you find something to slow what sounds like is out of control. It sounds so bad to me, I worry, do you think maybe you should go to an ER (as much as they are hard to handle)? I don't know what are your circumstances, your age, your support people. Your body is alerting you to a 'stress overload'. You've got to have help to get that awful constant anxiety under control. I pray 37.5 Effexor-XR will help you. If you can take a few days more of this ... this is the one AD for anxiety. I am inclined to suggest a benzo might be necessary for you. Have you given that any thought? You are in my thoughts and prayers, cf

There is a book, ""TELLING YOURSELF THE TRUTH"" by William Backus & Marie Chapian, that is probably the single most helpful book I have ever read.
It is about 'saying you are too weak to do a thing' ... which is not true. It is a 'how to rid yourself of negative thoughts and statements' book, by realizing you are lieing to yourself.

WINDDANCER - I think the reason you didn't see it is because Amazon did not carry either of the books. If you try it, w/ a book they have or don't have, you will see the option to link to it. If you try to link to Amazon with a book they don't have, it won't work ... others will not see it. That's why you don't. Not having a good morn' here, but think that's correct. many days later I have nottaken anything..but my daily ativan b4 I sleep tho yesterday no panic attack..I ssee shrink friday not sure what to say? would lexapro help me teh same with less side effctes? I am scaredddddddddddd ofthis effexor. i am not sure I will ever take it!

Hi,
I have many of the symptoms of fibromyalgia since I've taken Effexor, but it's not been diagnosed. I've never hurt so much all over my body as I do now. And I've stopped taking Effexor for about 3 weeks. The tendonitis in my hands is excrutiating and its extremely painful to write with a pen and very uncomfortable using the computer keyboard and mouse. I even got a mouse glidepoint pad and I haven't seen any improvement. I have had SI (low back) pain and sciatica off and on for about 5 years, but now it is so bad that I finally went in and had cortisone injections along my spine. This is after an MRI shows disc degeneration. I am going in for another MRI on my neck this afternoon, to see if they can find anything causing the hand pain and tingly fingers.
My doctor who administered the spinal cortisone said that low back pain can certainly lead to depression. And my MD and others sometimes dismiss back pain as a symptom of depression and I've heard that often they will treat back pain by prescribing an anti-depressant. Interesting, isn't it.
