Wellbutrin and itchiness

Posted by jessers11581 on March 30, 2005, at 21:50:56

I just started Wellbutrin today and have noticed some mild itchiness, mainly on my scalp, nose, back, and arms. It's not very bad at all, but noticible. Could it be the medicine? Has anyone else experienced this side effect and if so, did it go away over time?

The whole time I took Wellbutrin I had this itchiness too, mostly on the backs of my hands and between my fingers. Nothing ever relieved for me, except when I stopped taking the med.

Huh. That's really odd. Was it ever debilitating for you? It's obnoxious, but I seem to be able to deal with it. I just hope it doesn't get too much worse when I double the dose next week! Do you think it's an allergy or just a side effect of the drug?

you know ...this has been bugging me for awile now but I wasnt sure what was up? My legs have scratch marks all over them, I look like I have a mean cat :-( Lotion doesn't help...I thought it was dry skin or something but no. i havve not noticed a difference from dose changes and I have recently done this...so no less itching from lowering it so hopefully raising it will not make you more itchy.

It was only ever an annoying side effect, and one that I didn't realize was caused by the med until I stopped taking it. I don't think it was an allergic reaction as it never got any worse, and I didn't get any hive-like bumps, either.

I had that problem with wellbutrim but mine wasn't tollerable. I itched so much that I had scratched welps on my arms and legs, and I had to stop taking it, which was bad because I actually believe it was working, but I could deal with all the scratching ALL the time, it was as like it never ever stopped even in my sleep I would scratch. hopefully your case isn't that bad or won't get that bad. Good Luck

I was on it for 3 weeks, and on week 4 the rash started. I was bummed because Wellbutrin really seemed to be working. I had energy, was happy about life again, and I didn't have the bored munchies anymore. But, the rash was intollerable, and the welts on the bottom of my feet (golf ball sized!) were insane. I had to stop cold turkey. The first day without a dose I was totally tired and grumpy. It lasted 3 long tired grumpy days. I wish I didn't have the reaction. I am trying to decide what to take instead. Good luck.

Hi,

It's a good idea to discontinue it to be on the safe side:

P.S. By the way, I'm still doing well on 5mg Lexapro alternating daily w/ 100mg bupropion Extended Release. Just a note-I know there are very slight variations in generic drugs versus their name brand counterparts, but I've noticed that Wellbutrin SR 100mg makes me feel much more stimulated-I want to tackle all sorts of things like chores I've gotten behind on (thanks to SSRI apathy)-like I'd taken pseudophedrine decongestant. Whereas, the generic makes me feel calm and laid back though I still feel energetic and clear headed, just not in the same "fast lane" as the name brand. Interesting.
