Hi,
I just started taking Trileptal replacing my standard low dose of Depakote. I did have initial somnolence after taking a 150mg dose but then things changed. I noticed more energy, maybe slight edginess, but definitely no anxiety or hypomania. Although Depakote has proven itself to be effective for me I want to get away from sluggishness and apathy which is a recurring problem due to the drug. This drug could be a promising replacement in my case. No GABA work just channel work. Only time will tell. JN

JNYes, I also got some activation on Trileptal.. that probably explained why it worked a little better on the depressive side than Depakote for me. Another possibility is that you are getting a little bit of a withdrawal from the Depakote. I had that when I switched Depakote before to something else. If it wasn't for the super nausea I get from it (Trileptal), I probably would be taking it instead of Depakote now myself. You might even consider at some point a low-dose combo of both Trileptal and Depakote, if the Dep seemed to help with anxiety that is.

Hi Nixon,
Are you still taking Depakote? What dose? ER or immediate release?
Ed.

I was thinking about trying a low dose for inner restlessness and headaches, but the fat, bald and tired side effects I keep hearing about from people taking it are scaring my a bit. What about cognitive issues at low doses, any problems?
Also, did it make you edgy at all? I tried Topamax once and it made me a little edgy, uncomfortable, lost weight and felt dumber than a box of rocks.
This is the end of the thread.
