I am still dealing with this horrible internal restlessness/agitation. People have said proponol is good for that but what is it?Is it prescribed?

Maybe propanolol? It's a beta-blocker prescribed for many things - migraine prevention, blood pressure regulation, and anxiety that makes you jittery.
If that's the right med I'm thinking of.

I think you're talking about propranolol, too...its also known as "Inderal" (at least in the US) and is available in immediate-release and extended-release forms. The drug was designed for and is used for lowering blood-pressure. However, it has shown itself useful in anxiety, tremors, headaches, and, experimentally at least, akathisia. I took propranolol for akathisia from high-dose Abilify; basically, the propranolol kills off shakiness, jitteriness, and helps some people with anxiety. Some docs (like mine at the time) use it in conjunction with other anti-anxiety meds (it seems to boost benzos, for instance). Side effects can include worsening of depression or, more rarely, a whole new depressive episode.

I never knew propanol could worsen a depression. I did take lopressor 25mg 8yrs ago when my anxiety was so bad that the pdoc wouldn't even try a AD until I had been on it for 3 wks. It made me very tired though, and when I excercised my pulse wouldn't go up. I've read that this can be dangerous. Fondly, Phillipa

Yes and BetaBlockers such as propanolol can wreck havoc if you are on a high dose of Wellbutrin...my cardiologist just tossed the samples at me -- (my med list was right in fron of him) and fortunatly when I got home I did a bit of research...ALWAYS DO RESEARCH.

Also propanolol can cause a false reading of Lupus. It elevates your ANA. Fondly, Phillipa

Propranonol does treat what you are describing. I suffered from this for weeks and really wanted to end it. I was prescribed this drug at the ER and after 1 pill I felt 100 percent. However, it can take up to a week or two to work for some people. It should work though, as it blocks adrenaline and all of this is related to way too much adrenaline being shot out by the receptors.

I have seen shows on T.V. where a girl was involved in a car accident and was traumatized by it because she couldn't get it out of her head. She then took a beta-blocker and the car accident became much less imprinted in her mind. I know they are using it for PTSD stuff like this.
Has anyone has any experience where something that bothered them for along time was reduced by the beta blocker ?
Thanks,
Dave
