Has Anyone Stopped Effexor With No Withdrawal?

Posted by Kalena on February 2, 2005, at 14:42:26

I have been on and off Effexor a couple of different times (37.5mg max dosage) but never experienced anything other than being very angry and irritable (and this didn't last too long) and also some very vivid dreams. I did taper down though, from 37.5 each day to every other day to every other day, etc. Has anyone else had minimal withdrawal symptoms?

Yes. I tapered down from Effexor and onto another AD with little negative effect.

Im not sure if you read my post but I want to stop this- I have been on it 2 1/2 months. I have an interview on Tues and thought I should stop after that. If they want me to start on Monday, would I be okay, I dont want to go off on my first day of work. Can you explain how you felt ...my email is winnclb1@aol.com

Changes, good or bad (getting fired/starting a new job, getting married/going through a divorce), equal stress. I think trying to quit right in the middle of starting a new job might not be a good idea. Are you having unmanageable side effects right now, while you're on it? If not, I'd wait until you're a least a couple weeks settled into your new job before you start tapering off. If so (unmanageable side effects), I'd see your doctor right away.

I agree... Do not alter what your doing whatsoever during a period of unrest.

I didn't, but I most likely went onto another SSRI (I can't remember). When I stopped SSRIs altogether, I had a few hard days then I was fine.

I was on Effexor 150mg/day for a couple of months and stopped cold turkey. I just took some Xanax for a week(0.25 * 3/day) and didn't suffer more than i would from going off Lexapro.

Yep. nothing in the way of physical side effects. that made me very surprised. I went from 150 to 75 in one week and nothing then 75 to 0 overnight and started zoloft 25mg which may have helped. but for me effexor withdrawal is highly overrated

I got switched from effexor xt 150 mgs daily to lamictal...went from 150 to 75...felt horrible for several days then went from 75 to the 37.5 and have been on this for approx 2 weeks...i have an awful headache everyday and don't feel like doing anything....This might just be me, but i have never had these problems with other meds....

Hope this helps and good luck on the new job...

Michelle

I would have to agree with you. I experienced depression and agitation, but I would expect that withdrawing from any SSRI. Especially if you have a Seratonin imbalance to start with.
