Hi guys,
I am interested in hearing from anyone who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly, Multiple Personality Disorder).
I understand that for the majority it is a result of a long-term trauma. Childhood abuse or something similar. I understand that it is to do with dissociating during painful experiences, so you can "go somewhere else in your head" and not have to deal with what is happening.
However, how does this lead to multiple personalities or "identities"? Are two of the identities usually an adult and a child? If so, how does the child identity remain as a child and not grow up?
Thanks for anyone who can help me understand more about this disorder. I understand it must be hard for some to go over details. So thanks, if you can answer in any way at all :)
