effects of missed celexa dose?

Posted by Shortelise on January 16, 2005, at 16:58:08

Over x-mas, I missed a dose of Celexa. I didn't realize I had, never gave it a thought, until the middle of the next day.

I was queasy and nervous, shakey and anxious. And tearful. It was very a very unusual set of feelings for me, and racking my mind to figure out what could be wrong, I thought of the med, and realized that I may have forgotten it the night before. I was sure I had. I had one in my handbag, so I took it, and within an hour, I was fine.

Is it possible? I mean, it *is* what happened. I only take 20 mg every evening before bed, which is a small dose.

Any info would be very much appreciated.

Same thing happens to me when I don't take enough celexa.

Addictive, no. Addiction implies drug-seeking behaviors that interfere with social, work, and/or spiritual life.

However, that being said, I might as well be "addicted" to Effexor as I have not been able to discontinue this medication without experiencing the dreaded "discontinuation syndrome". Go figure. . . I am hooked but not addicted and I owe it all to Wyeth. And yes, I have reported my discontinuation symptoms to the FDA and urge all others who were not informed of this potential to do the same.

Hi ShortE,
I was on Celexa for several months. I don't specifically recall missing a dose, but I'm sure that I must have at least once. Your thoughts about how you are on a small dose, and also since SSRI's take awhile before you get to a therapeutic blood level, it seems unlikely to me that your experience was related to missing the dose.

But then again, we are all different in our sensitivities to meds. So..how's that for waffling? Were you aware you missed it? Or did you notice later that you had? I just wonder what other situational factors may have played a role along with missing the dose.

Paradoxically, I used to feel a small mood increase when I'd miss a dose (before the side effects kicked in after a couple days). I'm sure I was depressed back then, however, so I could have been feeling instead fewer of Celexa's mood effects that made me jittery and a bit hyper.

I have been on Celexa, 20 mg's, for over two years. It seems to be the therepeutic dose for me.

I didn't realize I'd missed a dose until I was feeling badly - nervous, shakey, etc.

Any thoughts? Thanks

I for sure felt a kick of energy - jittery energy. Not good energy.

It scares me. I don't want to stay on this med forever.

Thanks, AMD

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you weren't at therapeutic levels. I was just thinking that since it is not very short acting, it *seems* unlikely that missing one dose would have that effect. But you never know...

Only other thoughts are to rule out other potential causes: illness, triggered by something going on, blood sugar drop???

Your guess is as good as mine, unfortunately. Tough question.

After a while, like a week, I start to notice it. I will get more dependant on being around people, even if its bad relationships. One day and my level of happyness can change, good or bad.
