Effexor Withdrawl and Pregnancy

Posted by Ennoval on December 28, 2004, at 1:06:57

Thank God that I found this website. I am currently a little over 2 weks pregnant and have stopped Effexor for my health and the health of my baby. I too have been experiencing horrible mood swings, itching, insomnia (it's 2am where I'm at), and the worst are what I have seen some of you describe as "zaps". These feel like I'm being zapped by a cattle prod on several areas all over my body. I was pregnant in June and also went off of my Effexor and experienced these similar symptoms, but having never been pregnant before, I thought that this was normal. Unfortunately, I miscarried in July and because of my depression from that, I went back on my Effexor. Now that these symptoms are back, and now that I have read this site and many others, I know that what I am experiencing is withdrawl. I'm determined not to take the Effexor through this pregnancy, but I'm terrified that the withdrawl will be just as harmful for me and the baby. I feel totally out of control. God love my husband for his support through out all of this. Between my fear of another miscarriage and my serious withdrawl symptoms, I know that the next few months are going to be horrible. Please keep me in your prayers! And thank you to all of you who had the courage to write in here. You have helped me immensely.

My prayers are with you. I just wish I could give you some good advice that would diminish the withdrawal symptoms. Some people here have said that ginkgo and Benedryl helped them a lot with withdrawal but I don't know if either of them can be taken while you're pregnant. Maybe someone else here could add more information on that.

Best of luck,
Kara

Effexor and miscarriage?

While taking Effexor I suffered 3 miscarriages within 3 years. Docs could find no reason for the miscarriages. The first was a blighted ovum and I had to have a D & C. The second appeared to be fine at 12 weeks then at 14 weeks had no heartbeat and measured at 12 weeks. Had a D&C after this one. The 3rd one was diagnosed as dead at 8 weeks and the fetus measured 6 weeks. D & C had to be performed this time also. Anyone else had experience with miscarriage while on Effexor? The first doc said to stop the medication and I did to no avail. The second doc said there was no known connection between Effexor and miscarriage. The third doc said there was really no info on the subject so it was up to me because the withdrawals were so terrible for me. Anyone else?
