My Wife Stress

Posted by Buckeye Fan on January 11, 2005, at 9:29:01

Hi all,
Been offline for a while due to a computer breakdown.

My wife is considering Zoloft to help her battle the extreme stress in our life right now.

I am on 50mg a day and seem to adjusted well to that dose...along with 2mg of Xanaz at night to sleep.

If you had to pick a better AD for my wife...what would it be?

Stress, racing heart, angry outbursts and inabiblity to relax are her symptoms.

Would Xanax xr be a better choice?
I have been on xnanx for 5 years and hate to think of trying to come off of it, because of its deep addictive effects...so I hesitate to recommend that for her, even tho it is a life safer for panic, stress and anxiety.

Juts looking for some opinions from those who have been there~

BF

why not try klonopin? i think it works really well, have tried klonopin and xanax. i know they do exist, but i believe it is hard to get addicted to klonopin if that is primary concern. i dont know about what ppl say that it is depressing, because to me at 1.5mg daily it is not depressing. then again, ive never had depression. klonopin doesnt affect weight and sex so thats good to most women and if stress and anxiety are her main problems then maybe it would be good for her. hope you guys find something that works.

I have been where your wife is, and I know that it can be a scary neighborhood to be in, to say the least.

I have never tried Zoloft so I can not comment on it's effectiveness for the symptoms you have listed. My first depressive episode was characterized by much stress, agitation, anxiety and some anger (which I internalized as I usually do)). When I was finally treated (I had been self-medicating for a long time), I was put on Paxil as well as Xanax as needed. This combination worked very well for me for a number of years. The anxiety was controlled, I was no longer agitated and angry, and I found myself really enjoying things for the first time in a long time, in spite being in a very demanding and stressful job and having to deal with some personal life stressors. I also found myself somewhat more comfotable and at ease in work and social situations that typically would have caused me a great deal of angst. Although some people find Paxil sedating, this was not my experience (and I had even given up my 12 cups of coffee habit when I started Paxil). I was also fortunate enough not to have experienced the dreaded Paxil withdrawal syndrome when I stopped after 6 years of use. Your wife may want to avoid Xanax as a monotherapy, for the time being at least, given the potential for tolerance and dependency. But it is a lifesaver as needed.

I hope that your wife finds something to help her. You are a very good husband to be trying to identify the best med for her. Good luck to both of you.
