Matt,
Great antipsychotics exist now.. they are called atypical because they are very different from the old ones... theres one in particularly that i have used before.. its called risperdal (risperdone).. Its a very effective antipsychotic and its very tolerable!! I have a hard time with med side effects and i could tolerate this drug for a long time.. its really easy to take.. theres more options similar to risperdal as well, just make sure to discuss them with your pdoc!!

Im sorry that your feeling so bad. Im on Zyprexa myself for paranoia and it has helped me a lot.

Some people complain of zyprexa being sedating but I have never found it to be like that.

Everyone is different I guess.

Take care and I hope you get some releif soon.

Hey, I know the feeling....
just wanted to say i have taken zyprexa in the past and honestly dont even remember that time in my life. It was horrible for me and made me into a zombie. It was so bad, i just cold turkeyed off all my meds bc of that drug. Ask your pdoc for opinions..

zyprexa is the strongest. But realy you want to look at side effects.

zyprexa: increased apatite, tiredness, sedating, very good anti-anxiety, anti-panic, best for fast treatment.

geodon: no increased apatite, little less tiredness, sedating, a goodish substitute for zyprexa, or mix the 2.

abilify: high energy, no sedation, anxiety, take much less offten(3 days if you want, between doses); take this one if you have low enrgy, sleep a lot, and can't get out.

note: abilify and zyprexa are complete opposites. If one does not work try the other.

For you I will suggest zyprexa first. It will calm you and you will still get stuff done. There are times I can't function without it. Even though I have started geodon and take less zyprexa, because of side-effects. Abilify prevented my sleep.
