Anti psychotic with low sedative effect

Posted by capricorn on September 28, 2004, at 14:42:12

Could some kind person recommend an atypical anti psychotic that works well at combating dysphoria symptoms whilst not being overly sedating ie making one feel zombified.

I am on 10mgs Olanzapine at present.Though this works well in calming me inwardly i can not handle the high sedative effect.Have also experienced same problem with 4mg dosage of Risperidone and 25mg dosage of Seroquel.

I desperately need something to calm me inwardly without making me feel like a total zombie.

In my experience, Clozaril and Seroquel are the most sedating, followed by Zyprexa (olanzapine). Respirdal isn't too bad, but you say you have trouble on that. Which leaves only two other atypical anti-psychotics, Geodon (ziprasidone) and Aripiprazole (Abilify).

I don't know if Abilify is prescribed for people without schizophrenic symptoms so I would ask your doctor about Geodon ... or maybe a lower dose of Respirdal.

I tried abilify, and I was tired all the time.
