Best time of day to take Effexor XR

I would like your opinions about when you think it's best to take Effexor. I had been taking it first thing in the morning, but had lack of sleep issues. I am now taking it right before I go to sleep to see if that makes a difference. What has been a positive experience for you? Thank you.

Hi!

I'm taking 150mg of Effexor XR and I take it at noon. My doc instructed me to take it at bedtime, but that made my anxiety at bedtime really bad and made it really hard to sleep at all so I gradually changed to taking it at noon and I don't have as much trouble with sleep, but still have to take Benadryl or Unisom most nights to avoid waking during the night. I haven't tried taking it in the morning. What's your dosage and diagnosis? Good luck!

I take 75 mg of Effexor XR for anxiety/depression. I take 5 mg of Ambien when needed to sleep. This problem with sleeping is strange to me. Before Effexor, I was taking Remeron. Talk about a sleep-inducing drug. I never slept so soundly in my life. However, it did keep me kinda dopey during the day. The offset for that was Ritalin. Then my ins. co. decided not to cover Ritalin for that use. It is very expensive, so I switched to Effexor. If I take the Ambien when I wake, and know I'm going to remain awake, I sleep soundly. I guess I should just get off my high horse and stop trying to avoid taking the Ambien. Then I can cross this problem off the list. Now, for the sexual side-effects...

I've been taking Effexor 37.5 mgs per day by cutting half the pill. I take the first half in the morning, at 8 am and the second half at 8 pm. It works fine, and I sleep fine.

I am going to take Effexor XR so I don't have to keep cutting the pills. I originally started on a quarter of the pill to ease into it since I was afraid of strong side effects, which is why I never started on the XR in the first place. So, my question is, does anyone know how long the time release takes in between?
