hello there, chemist here...i am certain i cannot mess this response up as i did in earlier ones. yes, i have taken 1 mg klonopin (or more) at bedtime, and the result was more sleep, and increased need for klonopin during the day. this dose escalation stopped as soon as i got adjusted to the right dose, however. it sounds to me as if your doctor's proposal might well work, if your anxiety is high in the a.m. and can be kept at bay with the increased dose....do keep us informed, all the best, chemist

Yes, that's exactly the amount I took and that seemed the right amount to keep me asleep all night. It also erased the daytime panic attacks. The only hard time I was having was waking up in the morning. For some reason I'd wake up panicky and depressed, but once I got out of bed and got moving I was fine.
Now I'm tapering off because I'm back on an AD, but withdrawl has been very minimal.
Best Wishes,
cherylann

HI
I am curious - you say you are now tapering off the Klonopin? How long were you taking it? And what is your method for tapering? I too, am trying to stop klonopin because I am on an AD, and hopefully I will no longer need it - but would like to hear how you are doing.
Thanks

I am still trying to undertsand klonopin. I thought the half-life was about a day or two so how can you need more of it the next day?

well, seems as though the 1mg at bedtime is working for my waking anxiety the next morning! but it is very sedating

question for cherylann and chemist ... how long does it take for the morning sedation to subside leaving just the anti-anxiety effect?
one week?
two weeks?
more?
never?

hello there, chemist here...this is another one of those multivariable deals....on the whole, i would say 2 weeks to get the steady-state levels hitting the right receptors and keep the gears turning is a reasonable number. if you mix it up with booze, other meds, then you throw it out of whack. once you get to the right dose, your body will adjust, and (we've heard it/said it before) ``we are all different.'' klonopin is a slow, smooth ride compared to, say, ativan or the related xanax, which are jolts. you might find that a cup of coffee is needed some days and not others, but give it some time to settle in. i think 2 weeks ought to put you right: please advise if you find differently, and ask your doctor, as well.....all the best, chemist

hello there, chemist here...the elimination half-life is moderately long, and the pharmacokinetics of the drug are such that if you take 1 mg at 6 am, about half of the parent compound will be bioavailable x hours later. however, you need to augment x with y to keep the total more or less constant. recall that drugs are metabolised and eliminated constantly, so that 1 dose does not stick around forever. if you get on a bid dosing schedule, that ought to do it with klonopin....do let me know if this clears things a bit, and also check the archives for a very detailed post about half-lives i made a few months ago. all the best, chemist

I tried taking 1 mg Klonopin before bed, but found that the anti-anxiety effects started to wear off by about noon the next day. Now I just take 1 mg in the AM and that works best for me. Some others do fine with a nighttime dose, though.

The sedating effects (mild) lasted for a week or two and then completely disappeared. Klonopin still provides anxiety relief (after a few years at the same dose) and I have no side effects whatsoever.

I have high anxiety as well (severe GAD & Agoraphobia). Recently I got off of Effexor in the past four months and switched to Buspar and 2 mg of Klonopin. The Klonopin works really good for me. It gets me out of the house and able to function, however, I have noticed that it really depends on how you react to it. The 2 mg doesn't even make me a little tired. It makes me feel normal, whereas I know other people that are loopy for two days after taking a 2 mg tablet...so Idon't know....try and see how your body feels taking it at different times or maybe you need a higher dosage. I dont' take mine everyday- only when needed....which is close to every other day but at least not every day...lol
Anyways....follow your OWN intuition seriously. A doctor only knows so much and unforutnately we are just numbers to them. No matter what they do not know what is going on in our heads and everyone is completely different. Some get hooked on these drugs and soem don't. Some benefit from the drugs and others don't.....hope that helps a little.
