Anti histamines and Prozac or anxiety in general

Posted by SuzieWong on July 28, 2004, at 8:55:21

I really don't understand my problem anymore. After many weeks of trying to tolerate Prozac ie sleepless nights, agitation etc, I finally found that Nytol (like Benadryl in the USA) solved my problems.

Not only did it help me sleep but it took away the stomach churning/dropping kind of anxiety that I had to deal with every day...almost as if the Prozac had been causing it (because I didn't have that before taking it) and that the Nytol was resolving that problem.

I told my doctor this and he said he was quite happy for me to carry on taking the Nytol every night if that helped.

Anyway, last night I didn't take the Nytol, managed to sleep okay right through the night but today I have had the anxiety stomach dropping feeling and intense nervousness. I have just taken half a tablet of Nytol at midday to see what happens and the symptoms have all gone.

I really don't understand this anymore. Is the Prozac making me ill and its almost like i'm allergic to it which causes those problems. Or maybe after several weeks of taking Nytol I've become dependant on that so far as sedating effects and reducing anxiety.

Any ideas?

Prozac can be too activating for some people, myself included. Since you mention agitation, I would go off Prozac & try a different SSRI.

Upset stomach & insomnia are typical side effects of SSRI's. Eventually your stomach issues will go away, but the insomnia may not. If Benadryl covers your side effects then there is nothing wrong with staying on it.

Cheers,
Panda.

It sounds like the Prozac and Nytol combination is working very well for you right now. Stick with it!

Do not stop the Prozac or the Nytol because it seems like you are doing well with the combination.
