Off Zoloft, New to Wellbutrin + 2.5mg Zyprexa

Posted by NeilKramer on July 9, 2004, at 3:18:52

My pdoc put me on 150mg of Wellbutrin and told me to taper off the 100mg of Zoloft I'm taking. I also take 2.5 mg of Zyprexa, and will continue to take it. I get depression, but more of an anxious depression, and have problems with anxiety and insomnia, though it's been a lot better since March, when I started both the Zyprexa, then two weeks later, the Zoloft, so I don't know which one is helping me more. I'm stopping the Zoloft due to the sexual side effects. I've also been smoking lately, stupid because I shouldn't use stimulants, I avoid coffee, it makes me jittery. Will this be a problem with the Wellbutrin? What side effects can I expect, tapering off Zoloft, tapering on Wellbutrin? The Zyprexa fixed my insomnia before I started taking the Zoloft. Have a lovely evening and any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I started at 150mg. of Wellbutrin for a few weeks, then went to 300mg. I've never taken Zoloft, so I don't know if you'll have the same side effects. But I have major dry mouth, ringing in the ears and absolutely no appetite.
OH! AND insomnia. I've been told the side effects wear off after a few months, so I'll give it another month.

What is the Zyprexa for?

I haven't had any side effects from the Wellbutrin. And it's brought back my sex drive, even though I'm still tapering off the Zoloft. So far I like it a lot. I feel great. But it's only been four days, and I really haven't been depressed or anxious in the past month because of the Zoloft. The Zyprexa is for my speech impediment. I think it helps, but the AD's also help and I don't know if I could use both. Zyprexa is also beneficial with anxiety and insomnia, two other things that I'm plauged with. The only side effect I do have is loose stools, but even that has gone away in the last day. I still crave smoking, but I quit on Sunday, thinking the Wellbutrin would help. I wasn't a very heavy smoker, only and on and off one for the past seven years or so, and had only been smoking for the past month, but for some reason I feel more hooked than I have at any other time. Fortunately, I made a bet with my friend that I would have to call my parents and tell them I'm a smoker if I smoke another cigarette, which would be a little bit embarrasing. If I don't smoke for a month, my friend and I are going to throw a party.

NeilKrammer, after I reread my message I kind of thought I shouldn't have asked you what the Zyprexa was for. I'm sorry if that was intruding.

But I came back to this thread because my Dr. has switched me from Wellbutrin to Zoloft. He didn't know "ringing ears" was a side effect. Hmmm....it's on their website & the pamphlet that comes with the Rx.

Anyway. I wanted to see what your thoughts were on the Zoloft. I sooo love the No Appetite side effect of Wellbutrin. I'm losing tons of weight, which in turn is helping with the depression. Or maybe it's the med. I wanted to ask you what other kinds of side effects you had on Zoloft. I know everybody's different...so who knows how I'll react.
Thanks so much!

Zoloft can be great. My sister is on it - 200 mgs - and she has a little bit of spaciness when she ups her dose and delayed orgasm, which isn't always the worst thing. I had a dampened sex drive and that's about it. I felt a little bit like I was stoned a couple times and felt a little bit of vertigo when I was just starting it. Then I had a euphoric feeling, like it's ridiculous that I should feel this good. But no sex drive. I'm med sensitive. I once tried Lexapro for five days and it gave me insomnia and I had that weird sort of gushing feeling you get in your brain, and then it feels like your synapses are shooting back and forth like rubber bands. I had a bit of that with Zoloft but it was much more subtle. I was at a passover and this guy had the exact same shoes that I had - Brooks running shoes, which aren't that common - only one size smaller, and he put them next to mine and when I was leaving I tried to put them on and I was having this intense, weird reaction to the Zoloft and I was thinking, Am I going crazy? My shoes don't fit anymore. Also on Lexapro I was unable to hold a thought it in my mind. The doctors thought it was hypomanic, but I was wondering if it wasn't just some weird serotonic reaction. BTW - NeilKramer isn't my real name. It's the fictional name in a novel I'm writing.

BTW - I had a little bit of luck with Ginkgo Biloba solving the dampened sex drive on Zoloft. It worked for a little bit, then the problem returned. Maybe a low dose of Zoloft and a low dose of Wellbutrin would work. I'm not a doc, but Wellbutrin is often prescribed with Paxil, since they are manufactured by the same company.
