I recently started Depakote ER for bipolar II along with Prozac 20mgs. I am only on 250 mgs of Depakote so far but the side effect that is most troublesome to me is these bouts during the day of my mood shifting fairly rapidly from a normal or even "up" mood to a depressed, desperate mood. These swings really bother me and I did not have this particular problem prior to starting the Dep. I'm on the Depakote for long term stabilization of rapidy recurring depressive and intermittant hypomanic episodes but I never had this side effect of "mood lability" Does this get better with time? Will it even out? I don't want to give up too soon. Thanks.

I was on Depakote ER 1250mg for ten months. It did even out my moods but also turned me into a zombie in terms of feelings. I didn't have any hypomanic or manic episodes on this med.
