Provigil, now PROZAC?!?!

Posted by yoyoma on May 15, 2004, at 0:46:42

Ive been taking provigil for 2 months now and am stopping because of anxiety, tolerance, and making me go crazy. I told my pdoc this and now he wants me to go on prozac and i dont know why. I am so confused about all this shit and I just want to know what will work for me and not have to worry about the million different pscyh drugs I could/should be taking instead. I dont know anything about Prozac. The reason I like provigil initially because it gave me a boost of energy all day that I desperately needed because my body felt so heavy and I was so lethargic before. Can anybody please help?? I dont want to take prozac if I dont need to. How does it compare to zoloft or wellbutrin??

Unfortunatily, you just have to try for yourself, although I must say I like Prozac because I tolerate well as many other people do because of the long half life. You can start and stop without much problem, but with Zoloft, I can't tolerate it and from what you described anxiety wise, I don't think Zoloft would be a good choice based off what you said about your Provigil experience. Zoloft and Lexapro effect dopamine more than other SSRI's and for anxiety, it made mine horrible even after a month on both of these. I would give Prozac a try because it comes on slow and if it doesn't work you simply quit taking it and don't have to go through horrible withdrawals. If it doesn't work, back to the drawing board!

Hey! I take Provigil with Prozac and it has been really good. Prozac alone has worked for me in the past but this time around it was causing me more anxiety plus fatigue. Believe it or not, the anxiety from the Prozac is worse for me if I don't take the Provigil (go figure that one). I couldn't tolerate Zoloft and the other AD's didn't really help. Sometimes the initial anxiety that you may get from Prozac fades over time. If not you can often start at a low dose and gradually move up if needed. I've taken anywhere from 5mg to 60mg of Prozac and 10mg seems to work very well with minimal side effects. I also take only 100mg of Provigil divided as 50mg early a.m. - 50mg early p.m.
Prozac can be wonderful. Start low and go slow.
Lots of Luck!
