I have been prescribed Olanzapine. I have been on Paroxetine for the last year with only partial results and side effects which have included anhedonia and loss of libido.
Do I just suddenly stop and then take Olanzapine? How would recognize withdrawal symptoms from the side effects?
How quickly Olanzapine is supposed to take effect and what are the initial effects?
My doctor is of the oppinion that I can just switch!Anyfeed back would be appreciated.

I dont think you should come off Paroxetine cold turkey, I'm new to ssri's but as with all antidepressants it's not going to be easy, it's best to taper off slowly.
Olanzapine takes about a week for the full effects to kick in, It's an antipsychotic not an antidepressant so dont expect any effects Paxil gave you. I was only taking it for a few weeks and it made me feel terrible, all I could do all day was lie around and sleep. At the time I was also coming off Zispin (mirtazapine) cold turkey so I have an idea of how you will feel and it's no walk in the park.
Good luck.

My guess is you can just switch. Thats what I did, when starting, from risperdal. It starts working in 3 hours, you will notice. You are more likely (not to scare you) to notice withdraw comeing off zyprexa. Side-effects of zyprexa are sleepyness and over eating, watch your food intake, try not to let the zyprexa make food taste too good.

Switching from paroxetine to anything other than another SSRI is a bad idea. You might have severe withdrawals, as paroxetine is notorious for this. Have your symptoms changed from depression to psychosis? If so, gradually withdrawing from paroxetine, or better yet, using equilvalent doeses of Prozac, would be a good strategy with adding in the olanzapine.
