HIya darling, wanted to ask you a few questions...
Ok, i suffer with anxiety panick attacks mild depression (some times good sometimes bad like) but i am more anxious over health probs.. 2 yrs ago a doctor oncall prescribed me valuim 2mg to take 3 times a day for my anxiety as i was getting panick atatcks bad because i didnt understand what was going on, i didnt take them 3 times a day i only took them when needed as my doc told me to take as needed anyways when i rang him to t ell him whats been going on, one night i took 2mg cus i was panicking then still panicking so i took another all in all i took about 12mg of vauim but i was still haveing a major panick attack that lasted days, i was terrified but it subsided in the end!!
i been taking 30mg of remeron for over a year now, nothing else has ever helped me, all ssris snris raise my bp and hrt rate and prothiadan and trazadone made me feel like my hrt was gonna stop gave me a panicky reaction when i took them, so i am with remeron on 30 mg for little over a yr, helped some what with anxiety not 100% but not as bad as i used to be, about 2/3 weeks ago i started obsessing over my hrt, my chest like and i was panicking for days i was to afraid to go to my docs so i took myself to the doc on call and he prescribed me 5mg valuim 6 of them to take as needed and to go see my doctor, week later i went to my doctor and he didnt liek the idea of me taking valuim but he did give me a prescription for 28 2mg to be taken as needed, i havent taken any of the 2mg and i still have a few 5mg left from the doctor on call, when i took 5 mg last saturday morning about 11am then another 5mg about 3 pm to keep me calm for a bbq i was really calm, and i felt even better on sunday, then when i took 5mg on tuesday as its a hectic day i was still anxious, and felt a little panicky, obviousley now i am worried because of wat happened 2 yrs ago to what happened tuesday... any ideas? I am off to greece in 3 w eeks a nd dreading it!!
thankyou
kindest regards
Donna

You might be a candidate for Nardil.

I forgot to suggest that perhaps a beta-blocker would be suitable to treat the panic attacks as they happen until you find a more comprehensive treatment.

hi donna and scott....first off, i defer to scott on the suggestion of nardil. as for your experiences with valium, sounds to me like break-through panic on top of an underlying general anxiety disorder. if you are not taking valium all the time, a single dose will do you right, provided it is a large enough dose. the downside is that you have not addressed the general anxiety. scott's suggestion of nardil sounds great to me, as it seems that remeron isn't doing the job as well as anticipated. it also seems that maybe long-term therapy with a benzo is called for, not just once in a while...all the best, chemist

Thanks for the reply, i do have a severe anxiety disorder i obsess over the littlest health prob its unberleivable, i dont take vlium regular, last time i took it was 3 yrs ago except for 2 w eeks ago i took it 3 times 5mg at 11am 5mg at 3pm as i was going to a bbq and i was fine then tuesday morning before shopping i took 5mg but i dont think they helped me as i felt kind of panicky walking round town.. the doctor gave me 28 tabs of 2mg to take, i am a little weary, what exactly do you think has happened? wat does valium do? i didnt like beta blockas as they just gave me the same feeling as traz and prothiaden did, but i need something for my anxiety nhs dierct told me that valium should be the answer but i dont feel its helping me some what , wat am i doing wrong? am i not taking enough? is it causing me a panicky reaction? my mind is so overactive.. i am at such a loss.. i am off to greece in 3 weeks and am so dreading the 4 hr flight and the stay there for 7 days i can just about manage to go out at home now.. i am so scared.... any advice? Thanks

Hi
Can you ask to try another benzo?..valium did nothing for anxiety for me.
Docs give klonopin in uk on nhs..
There's also lorazepam it's stronger than valium...but may make you really sleepy. If you get on with your doc ask about xanax--don't know uk name for it-- your nhs doc can prescripe it here in uk but only on a private prescription.
Anxiety in my case isn't eased by benzo's ...just makes me very depressed and crave booze

hi there....slinky's advice is sound, in my opinion. your 2 mg valium tabs aren't going to make a difference unless you are popping them all the time, and then you have to deal with a bit of lethargy that comes at higher doses. ativan and xanax (chemical names lorazepam and alprazolam, respectively) could be of help in your panic, and klonopin (clonazepam) can very well keep your daily anxiety at a minimum......give it a try, you sound like you need to be stabilized quickly....with all the best wishes, chemist

THanks but sadly klon ativan and xanax (chemical names lorazepam and alprazolam, clon) Are only prescribed for hospilized patients.. no doctors that i have ever known or spoken to will prescribe it.
I will stick to valium maybe i need to take it moore and at higher doses.. chemist what do you recommend?
ps..... my mind is overpowering, i dididnt even get knocked out when i started 15mg remeron...
thanks

>i recommend upping the valium, as that appears to be the only viable option for dealing with your anxiety/panic for now. i think Panda might have mentioned nardil, and this something to investigate. but for now, you need to get the jitters out of your head. suggestion 15-20 mg valium/day in divided doses, and do look into nardil....let us know, and all the best wishes, chemist

Why don't you increase your Remeron? 30mg is considered a standard dose. Go up to 45mg and see if it helps with your anxiety and obsessing.

>Hi Donna,
What was the problem with beta blockers? I forgot, if you have already told me :)
Other than that, I agree with Scott, Nardil could be your answer.
Can you tell me again what happened to you on TCA's? I remember you had trouble with Dothepin, did it raise your heart rate or cause an arrhythmia?
Cheers,
Panda.

>It's maddening that you can't get the Benzos you feel you need, it is still good treatment for a lot of people, how many do they let you have on one script? I would not fear MAOI's, you can educate yourself on what you can & can't ingest & you can carry the antidote to a food or drug reaction with you.(Thorazine) If you feel you are having a reaction to something you could take some Thorazine on the way to hospital & the worst thing that would happen if you were wrong would be a day of sedation. :)
The only good news is when you go for your holiday you should be able to see a doctor there & get a decent amount while on vacation.
Cheers,
Panda.

Chemist suggested I ask you guys/gals about experiences with Effexor/Zoloft for social anxiety and GAD. I'm quickly becoming a vet of the drug wars - 20 years on Nardil - good until stopped working (what else is new), but then, in rapid fire, Parnate (eh), Lexapro (eh plus somewhat sleepy) and Luvox (brainfog wipeout). I'm now considering either Klonopin/Adderol (which the poster called Chemist sort of recommended among my choices), Effexor, Zoloft plus Wellbutrin, or Marplan. (Pdoc recommended Geodun and Zyprexa but afraid of weight gain, fatigue and haven't had luck with anti-psychotics like Haldol and Risperdal).
Chemist ref'd me to you three re Effexor, Zoloft, Marplan (doubt anyone has taken the latter), did they make you tired, and how awful were they otherwise. Effexor seems to carry so much bad press here and withdrawal horror stories. Then there's Neurontin (this is making me sound "neurotic".
What would you recommend as a good next step and tell me of any experiences with Effexor, Zoloft and the others.
Mucho thanks. Phil

>Hi Phil,
I'm on Effexor & Remeron for atypical depression, with some social & general anxieties as mild side issues & insomnia. They work great for me, but I am not sure Effexor or Effexor+Remeron are the ideal drugs if anxiety is your primary problem. Effexor is great if you are suicidal & need to be rescued from a deep dark hole, but withdrawl is going to be a problem & ultimately I think you are looking for a Nardil holiday & you possibly would want to go back to it in 6-12 months.
Something that I would like to try is SSRI + Secondary TCA, ie, Zoloft + Desipramine or Nortriptyline. 'Pdoc recommended Geodun and Zyprexa' sounds a little bit like drug company rep wants your pdoc to sell you on expensive drugs to me, they would be something I would try last.
Cheers,
Panda.
