how long do you think it takes for an ssri, i.e. lexapro, to do the job of restoring volume +/or function in the hippocampus
underlying this question,i am wondering at what point can i go to some alternative remedies, like epa and st. john's wort?
i am down to 5mg a day and stable
fyi....i have also cut back my depakote to 250mg/day, and been using lithium orotate, which i like
lastly any ideas on aspartate or arginate forms of lithium vs. orotate
many thanks in advance

> joebobhi joebob, i am going to defer the lexapro question to SLS, Sand Panda, or King Vultan, as they really seem to know quite a bit about meds such as lexapro...i have had good success with high doses of omega-3 fish oil, EPA:DHA = 3:2, and there are some studies that have shown promising results for mood stabilization...as for an amino acid salt of lithium as opposed the one you are taking, which is a salt of a pyrimidine-derivative that causes your body to flush more uric acid out of your system: the orotate will (potentially) be good if something like gout is present or if you are headed in that direction, i suppose. it is an intermediate in RNA sysnthesis (the base, uracil, to be precise), but i don't think taking it has any effect on this....as for aspartate or arginate, i'd go with the former just for the off-chance that the aspartate bumps up your neurotransmitter levels a little bit....don't know off-hand about the arginine salt, unless you have problems with lysine/arginine balance, but then, you would address that with supplements....so, shoot another post about the lexapro for Sad Panda, SLS, and King Vultan; check out omega-3 fatty acids for mood-stabilisation (~6000-12000 mg/day, maybe more); and stick with your present lithium salt, i think that you sound very pleased with it....all the best, chemist

>Hi,
I don't know how drugs of any sort affect the functioning of the hippocampus, the main thing I am interested in is comparing AD-A to AD-B. AFAIK, if you want to make your hippocampus bigger & stronger then the best way is to use it. The people with the biggest hippocampus are taxi drivers. :) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/677048.stm
Cheers,
