zyprexa and abilify

Posted by justplainflakey on April 11, 2004, at 9:01:11

I had been taking zyprexa alone and three weeks ago lowered the dose to 5 mg and added 7.5 mg ablilify. The combo works pretty well, less anxiety than abilify alone, but my sleep is choppy (two hrs asleep and 1 hr up, repeat). However my greatest concern is the facial edema I get with zyprexa. I thought lowering the dose and adding abilify might help but so far it hasn't. I'm considering lowering the dose again but with my sleep not being the greatest already, I'm hesitant. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it, I'm open to ideas.

Try lowering the abilify instead. I thik abilify has the facial think also. You can still sleep this way. I stoped abilify and took wellbutrin with a slighly lower zyprexa, this worked the best.

thanks, last year I took abilify by itself for about 11 mo and felt and looked 20 yrs younger, but couldnt't sleep and became very, very tired. it is hard for my pdoc to figure out a good dose for me except for gauging my side effects because my last episode was 15 yrs ago. I see him in about 10 days and will try to talk to him about adjusting my dose and may even try it first on my own in order to take evidence to him.

with facial edema your face stays poofy like right after you wake up in the morning and in my case I also have dark circles under my eyes. It does get a little better through the day, but doesn't seem to have a normal muscle tone. Not perticullary how one wants to look.

Thats what I do and just leave a message on his answering machine, he likes that.

Another idea I will just throw in. Take Abilify till you gage then take a day or two off and go back on. Basicly as needed.
