I have low grade but very chronic depression I am hoping to try lexapro. How has this been for side effects?

Minimal. I have chronic tension headaches which my pdoc and I suspect are exacerbated by the Lexapro. Also, sex drive is killed, but this is typical of all SSRIs.

Hi Bertill-
I've been on Lex for almost 6 months now (started at 10mg, went to 20mg at 10 weeks). My depression would fall into the dysthymia category. It's worked pretty well. I was never non-functioning and now I'm functioning better - able to make decisions better and not so crabby/angry/irrational/obsessed. Yes, I am female and this is all hormone cycle-related!

Anyway, s/e's were pretty tolerable, insomnia and inorgasmia have been the last to go and they are not completely gone yet. The others were not bad - tired during the day & brain fog (from the insomnia maybe), itchy, jaw clenching, stomach upset, some weight gain I think, too. I did notice an increase in anxiety during the first few weeks - many have described feeling "wired but tired". I was a little hyper, evidenced by tapping my foot a lot!

Good luck to you! We have a very active & supportive Lexapro thread going if you scroll upward. You can read many posts on getting started on Lex by going to the archives. We also post a lot on social!

I was on lexapro for a short period and it was not the med for me. I fell asleep everywhere and it did not help the depression. I am only telling you this cause other meds worked alot better, so if lexapro doesn't work there are others out there that probably will. terrics
