I have redirected this to the medication board from Social.

In the year I have been on effexor it has been increased from 75mg to 375mg every time I got 'down' from an admission to hospital for diabetes complications...I have been told I have had brittle diabetes all my life but in this past year it has been a lot worse! To cut to the chase I was wondering if there were any others out there who have diabetes who are on effexor xr and have had probelems with really bad hypoglaecaemic reactions? It seems like the higher the dose got the less insulin I needed and I have ended up in a coma late last year and having constant hypos where I end up passing out in the past few months. Just recently a doctor said that they had a report that effexor had caused hypos but there wasnt a lot known about it! I have since been taken off of effexor and am on nothing at all, which is extremely hard but was wondering if anyone else knew anything about this??

rebs,
I don't have diabetes I, but am at risk for diabetes II. This, I beleive was extremely accelerated by being on Effexor. But I believe it is a different process than diabetes I (insulin resistance). But being on effexor started me having cravings for sugar and chocolate, etc. much more than I ever did. I think it is all related somehow.
I hope you re-establish the equilibrium you need and I hope you can find a med that helps without causing the diabetes problems.
Good luck.
