My update about depression/ looking for a friend.

Posted by Tom Studebaker on March 31, 2004, at 17:39:46

I have been on Effexor xr for close to twelve weeks. I am also on Abilify (used as a mood sta.), and Clonopine. The Effexor was just raised to 300 mg, the Abilify to 15 mg., and the Clonopine as needed not to exceed 2mg per dayand I will see him in three weeks. I don't have a job (downsized engineer) and really don't know how I am suppose to feel. Life is hard and I am looking for relief from the meds but don't know how much better to expect to feel from them. I do believe they have helped some. I like my doc. and he truly seems to care. He also lets me see him for practically nothing since I am on unemployment. I have a great wife and great kids but cannot get on top of this thing. Tired no motivation. No jobs in my area as of yet.

Looking for a friend to talk to, encouraging news not news of doom.

God bless,

Tom

I'll be your friend :) And hold out hope that the meds will work dear. I was on Abilify 15 mgs for a while, with no SE. Wish I could help you out more. And I don't check this board often either. Wish I could help you out some more.... Feel free to stop by Social ny time though. We're always looking for new friends there! And repeat to yourself, "The meds will work, the meds will work...." I'll be thinking about you. I'm sure someone will have some news for you soon....kk

Tom,
Don't give up buddy. These things can be hard to get a hold of - especially since everyone reacts differently to meds. I have struggled with my wife in the same area. The best thing that worked for her was getting OFF of Effexor. It actually made her more depressed after being on it for 6 months. It wasn't easy coming off (had to go slowly), but the more it was reduced the better she felt.
While we were reducing the Effexor she was stated on a vitamin program. It REALLY REALLY helped!! Many people with depression have simple vitamin and mineral problems. Vitamin B's are great and Fish Oil is awesome. These things in combination with some other supplements have been the most helpful thing for her ever (and they aren't hard on your body). They took a few months to kick in, but are doing a great job.
Look into it Tom - search "orthomolecular psychiatry" on the web.
My prayers and thoughts will be with you - don't give up.
