Which of the available anti-depressants DON'T have sedating effects? I'm taking Effexor at the moment and have taken Seroxat in the past and both have been very sedating for me. All I want to do is sleep.
I'm going to ask my Psychiatrist for a different drug, but I don't know what to ask for. I suffer from anxiety so I guess I don't want anything too stimulating such as Wellbutrin. I think something with a mild stimulant and non sedating action may help.
Any suggestions???

> Thanks!SSRIs, and effexor are strange drugs...It really depends on the individual, whether the med is stimulating or sedating...for example, effexor caused me greater anxiety, yet in your case, it's sedating.
The only meds I found stimulating were Prozac, and the MAOIs...I felt like I was on amphetamine when I was taking prozac...Parnate (MAOI) is considered stimulating for most. Wellbutrin was neither stimulating or sedating (for me).
You may want to consider a medication that is more selective to norepinephrine than serotonin.
You may benefit from a mild stimulant like Ritalin, or even a psychostimulant like Provigil, or even the MAOIs selegiline, or Nardil.

Moclobemide in doses of 600mg and above is usually stimulating.
I am on it currently. I find it very tolerable, it has no side effects for me!It doesn't have a great reputation as an antidepressent though.
I'm taking it for ADD

I've been on both Parnate and moclobemide, and neither was remotely stimulating for me. Sounds like you need the paroxetine with a stimulant.

I take Wellbutrin and don't find it overstimulating at all. But also not sedating. In fact I have no side effects from it. I know it does make some people anxious - but by no means everyone. My only complaint is that it's not as effective as the SSRIs for depression and is not helpful at all for social phobia. Don't get me wrong - it reduces depression significantly. It just doesn't erase it completely.

I've found Prozac to be most stimulating (in a good way). Lexapro and Paxil were the least stimulating for me and actually didn't help my depression at all. Zoloft & Effexor were about in the middle, leaning more towards stimulating than not. Of course this is after the initial side effects go away (3 months or more) which can have all kinds of different effects on you. This is my own personal experience and it could easily be the opposite for someone else.
