Hi,
I have been on Lexapro for nearly a month, and now I am having trouble reaching orgasm. I hate that feeling! Anyway, is this something that will go away or should I taper off this and try something else. I have fibromyalgia and this is a new thing we are trying.
Thanks!

I have the same problem. I have heard that Wellbutrin has a lower chance of sexual side effects. Most of the SSRI's are going to give you that problem. They have for me anyway. There may be meds to counter act that side-effect. I'd ask your doctor. Good luck, j

Hi There! It is a common side affect for both sexes & is a problem for all SSRI's & Efexor. Some people recommend adding Wellbutrin to counter that effect, I can't get that here so I use Remeron which is also good if you have sleeping problems.
Cheers,
Panda.

How much remeron are you taking Panda? Are you having a weight gain issue from it?

>I am on 30mg, but I only needed 15mg for 150mg of Efexor. Weight is not an issue for me, probably because it doesn't stimulate my appetite.
Cheers,
Panda.

Hello I suffer from Dysthymia although sometimes with acute anxiety and darkness. Over the last 10 years or so I have tried almost every SSRI on the market - everyone except Wellbutrin (made me way too anxious) which I consider an aphrodisiac. Some anti-depressants were better for me than others, but I couldn't take the anorgasmia. I now take Cipralex (Lexapro) and with 10 mgs I had the best orgasms I can remember. My husband is pretty peaked about this too ;)
I went through a particularily pronounced slump the other week though, and after being on 10 mgs for about 5 weeks my psychiatrist suggested trying 20 mgs. Immediate anorgasmia. I am now at 15 mgs, and will give a few days and my husband and I will have high hopes...otherwise I'm going back to 10 mgs and give it more time. No side effects either, a great choice for me. I also take 2 mgs of Clonazapam.

I am so happy for you and very jealous too. How long have you been on the 10 mg? My organ just shrank on this drug.

I know eh? It's so frustrating. I checked my calendar and I had been on 10 mgs for only 4 weeks. Now I'm reading it could take up to 9 or more weeks to reach full benefit. I just upped it to 20 for a couple days there after a MAJOR meltdown and at the suggestion of my pdoc. Then the letdown - unattainable orgasm. Now I've backed it up to 15 mgs. I see my pdoc on the 26th so I'll discuss it all with her again. May just need to give 10 mg more time.

Hi Damsel,
Do you mind if I ask how your pdoc appointment was - what advice did she give you? I'm taking 15 mgs and haven't had a lot of trouble with climaxing during sex, although it takes longer to get there.
It took about 9 wks of taking Lexapro before I began to see an improvement. It's frustrating that it takes so long, some people see immediate results but I'm not one of them. At week 6 I increased to 15 mgs and felt much better than I did at 10 mgs. (Of course everyone is different. Some have success at 5 mgs and some people have success at 30 mgs.)
I hope you start feeling better soon. Even though Lex takes a while to kick in, it's well worth the wait.
K.
