Not anymore. I started on paxil, but it worked for about 6 months then I nosedived. Then I tried celexa - good for 2 1/2 years. Then I tanked on that. I then was on zyprexa and I wanted to die. I slept for 16 hours and was ravenously hungry. Finally, I found a new doctor (a p-doc this time) and now I'm on effexor xr, buspar and small dose of xanax. This feels like a winner and I'm starting to feel better rather than worse.

Paxil might have been OK if the doc and I had been monitoring it better (he's a GP) and tried different dosages or combos with other drugs. Also have heard many horror stories about self adjusting dosage. I wouldn't want to do it unsupervised.

I have taken paxil for two years and have changed dosage on a weekly basis just so I could keep it working. I have no horror stories to tell about it other than the fact it didn't work for me on its own. Works good now though with the lithium added to it. I can now keep the dosage constant and get the effect. Actual I do have a problem now that I didn't have before the lithium was started and I'm not sure if its the lithium causing it or the fact that the paxil is working now that causes it. But at night when I am falling asleep I have slight Seizures. They feel very different from ssri induced twitching, they are real Seizures. The lithium works so well for me that I have decided not to let this problem keep me from taking it.

Thanks for the info everyone. I take lamictal and effexor, but it doesnt help w/ social phobia. Thats why I thought of replacing effexor with the paxil and continue to take lam. we'll see what happens.

Thanks for your support.

I take Lamictal and Paxil. I have been on the Paxil for over two years and it seems to be pooping out, so I may have to change. But the two working together are really helpful. I was on Depakote and Paxil and that was a nightmare for me because it made me gain 30 pounds and I slept all the time.

Ann,

Well I havent started taking the paxil yet. I take 150mg of effexor and am now at 100mg lamictal. I just want something to help with social anxiety and effexor does 0 for that. The lamictal got me out of my depression, so Im just praying adding paxil will help me. Tired of trying so many diff. meds. Wish I could find the "magic" cocktail.....

Thanks everyone!

Why don't you try increasing the effexor or the lamctal? The lamictal will augment the effexor and give it a boost. Paxil is the worst ssri for weight gain. I was on it a long time and don't miss it a bit!!!
