Apparently dosage is VERY important with Neurontin (unlike some SSRIs, where 25mg = 200mg effect)
I have heard some need high does before it works.
Initially is made me more anxious which is a good sign.
But, now, at 1200mg for only one day, I dont feel too much.
I have been on it 4 days.
One would think I should up the dose...
Please tell all experiences related to dose and duration...
can it kick in after a week or two???
what dose did you NEED for therapeutic effects>???

I have been on 300mg 3x daily for two weeks and I have had SOME relief, but not total. The intial dosing of 300 mg at bedtime did nothing. I meet with my pdoc tomorrow so we will be discussing what to do.

Ace,
I have been on N for about three and a half weeks now. 300mg the first week and went up to 600mg the second week. The first day I went up to 600mg it started what I felt like was a low intensity hypomanic episode. The only thing it has helped me with is the ability to talk to people and also better concentration and organized thoughts. I still feel like I have anxiety but a positive kind of axiety if that makes any sense. I still feel as though I am in a hypomanic episode. Most people have described the ability to sleep better on N, but it is the complete opposite for me. I usually feel wound up at night. I have weird responses to meds. It has done nothing for my depression.

What are you using the Neurontin for? That serves as a guideline for which doses might be useful, but even then it's really a matter of individual response.
I found the most effective dosage to be 4800mg (for social anxiety/agitation), though 2400mg and up worked well. If it weren't usurously expensive for an effective dose, I'd go back on it. Trileptal just doesn't have that "feel-good" component that high-dose Neurontin did.

Using it for residual anxiety/OCD and some derealization with phobic anxiety...

WOW! That's double the maximimum dose...at lower doses did it have much effect?

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I'd start with at least 1200mg/day, probably 2400mg/day (800mg tid or 600mg qid) if you're not bipolar. If you have insurance, I'd get 240 400mg caps and start titrating up beginning with 400mg at night. If you don't have insurance, find another drug. ;)
> WOW! That's double the maximimum dose...at lower doses did it have much effect? That's the maximum dosage for seizures. We're not treating seizures here, so it's a whole different ballgame. It had about 75% of the effect at 2400mg as it did at 4800mg.

It was a painkiller at 4800mg, honestly. No opioid euphoria, obviously, but like being wrapped in emotional insulation--hunger didn't even bother me most of the time. The only side effect was extreme difficulty achieving orgasm due to the strong analgesia.
