I am on 2.5 to 5 mg Abilify daily. I find it to be a very 'activating' drug, which makes it a two-edged sword. While it's not sedating this same feature can give you insomnia. I take Zyprexa and lithium at night in order to sleep.

I am on 15 mgs Abilify, 1200 mgs Neurontin, and 300 mgs Topamax. I didn't notice any side effects at all when I first began taking 10 mgs. I discontinued (without my dr's knowledge oopsie!) at the 15 mark , then recently started it directly at 15 and noticed some dizziness. The moral of the story is to not discontinue and restart any meds without yoru doctor's knowledge. /Umm, but the sdie effects are low and very tolerable compared to others out there. I haven't noticed any other than the dizziness, that I brought on myself. Good luck and I hope it helps you! Karen

Hey! Yeah, the Topamax works GREAT!!!! for mood stabilization. I was on Abilify for hallucinations (due to stress I think??). The good doc claims that there is evidence that Abilify also helps to control manic episodes as well. That is why he suggrests that I contiue taking the antipsychotic (abilify). In case you are wondering, Topamax is the best mood stabilizer I have been on yet!! Karen

topamax sounds like a great drug .... i guess we are the lucky ones

i guess i had tingling and mental slowness when i was on zyprexa, but that seemed to go away when i lowered the dose a bit

no such problems on abilify! ... man this seems like the perfect drug... i hope it doesn't turn out to have any unknown long term effects... but hopefully keeping the dose low will keep me safe

Hi,
I am on 300mg Seroquel, 1200mg Neurontin,150mg wellbutrin, 30mg Abilify, and 2 mg of Risperdal. I like the Abilify. I have had few if any side effects. I only had a little bit of akathisia for about 10 minutes at a time during the first 2 months that I was on the drug. It has since gone away and right now I feel no side effects from it. I started at 10mg and went up to 20mg, then 30mg. It seems to have an antidepressant effect for me as well as a mild antipsychotic effect.
Good luck
Tammy

Akathisia...ugh!

I was on Geodon before Abilify and thought I was manic.. Even my therapist thought so. I was pacing the halls befrore my appointment, I couldn't sleep. It was just horrible. But, my doctor got it straightened out. I had akathesia from the Geodon. That is the most uncomfortable I think I have ever been. I couldn't even hold my head in a comfortable position. Ugh! I feel for you. But, I had it for aobut 2 weeks before realizing what the problem was. Karen

I too got akathisia on Geodon and had to discontinue it. But the akathisia wasn't as bad as that experienced on Risperdal! The anxiety and restlessness was horrible.

I have never experienced akathisia on Zyprexa or Seroquel.

I'm on 2mg Risperdal daily and have to take cogentin to combat the tremors. Mainly in my right arm. When this first started I thought I was getting Parkinson's. My pdoc has tried several times to take me off Risperdal but my symptoms always return. Akathisia was a new twist on an old problem.
